Like GG War In The East 2, this is an excellent game for those willing to put in the time to learn to play it. In my case, this was a relatively easy transition since I already had War In The East 2 and had played it extensively.

There are notable differences between the games. For example, the way you define the missions for your air force are somewhat different. But if you learn the one, it should not be difficult to learn the other.

If you buy this, I would suggest getting the Operation Torch DLC at the same time as it has a number of smaller scenarios that are excellent for learning the game.

Anyway, this come highly recommended for those interested in the operational aspects of the War in The West.

While I have seen this game criticized for being essentially Air War in the West, some of those smaller scenarios again have much less reliance on the air war aspect of the game.

Currently, I have played Introductory Scenario Air Campaign, Operation Husky, Operation Dragoon, Battle for Tunisia 43, and Rommel Attacks 43. Notice I have only a little over 19 hours in the game at this point and have already been able to complete all the above.

It is true that the larger campaigns are going to be a major time commitment. But it IS possible to enjoy the game with less time committed.

If you are interested in World War II history, enjoy a challenge, and like strategy games with a deep sense of history. Then this is for you...

Tough to learn but great to play

Gary Grigsby is a genius, plus this is an educational game for Americans by showing that the Americans barely made a difference for the outcome of the war.

Looks like a great game. Sadly, I was unable to run the game on either a Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer, both upper end. Returned.

it seems this game is suited to the allies to be played in most of this game. As the Axis player in the " Grand Campaign" there isnt much to do. You cant perform any amphibious landings, you cant really move too many units around because they are set to static, you do have air borne units but you dont have enough aircraft to move them, so no real way to use them. Just as the Allies started to invade Italy, the italians gave up, leaving just 15,000 germans to defend all of italy. I basically just sat through 30 turns, just waiting to be invaded by the allies. Also there isnt a way to control whats being produced, so you cant really build anything. So you end up kinda doing your best with what ever the game decides to give you. Also ALL of the naval combat and movement is under the command of the AI...so it looked to me that my U boats where mostly out on a picnic somewhere instead of fighting. Also from the edge of the map on the right, to the Alps and then to the North Sea above Poland I only had 22k in men. I was REALLY excited for this game but after not being able to control any naval units, no way to conduct an amphibious landing, no way to make an airborne jump, no way to control what my war machine is building and no real way to get what I did build to a specific unit...Im going to have to advise a hard pass on this one, even more so at a price tage of $70 something bucks.

Awesome game! Has so much depth on many levels. Probably the most comprehensive WW2 western front game of all time!
