List of Bugged Steam Achievements for Lords of Waterdeep
This is a thread to document and discuss any bugged Steam achievements for the computer game version of the Lords of Waterdeep board game.

The Steam version just came out a few months ago (Sep 1, 2017), so hopefully the development team is still supporting it and are in the process of fixing the bugs.

When it comes to computer versions of board games, I've been most impressed with Ticket to Ride. Even after 9 DLC expansions, I have never had any issues with not-unlocking Steam achievements or any other glitches in the game. I've only played a bit of Mysterium but haven't encountered any bugs so far. Kings of Israel (a Biblical version of Pandemic) had several bugs - the developers quickly fixed some but haven't fixed the rest. The computer version of Splendor is really buggy though, with one achievement ("Gold is Useless") not unlocking despite multiple forum complaints. It's been over a year and a half and this still hasn't been fixed! Plague Inc. and This War of Mine were technically computer games first before board game versions were made. In both cases, there have been some periodic bugs but the developers seem active and attentive to the issues.

The biggest issue with Lords of Waterdeep seem to be the various quest completion achievements so I will focus on those first and then discuss some of the minor issues which took several tries before they finally unlocked.

[Major Bugs: Quest completions]

Warmonger: Complete 8 Warfare quests in 1 game
Moneychanger: Complete 8 Commerce quests in 1 game
Spellbinder: Complete 8 Arcana quests in 1 game
Oracle: Complete 8 Piety quests in 1 game
Spymaster: Complete 8 Skullduggery quests in 1 game
Well Rounded: Complete 1 of each quest type in 1 game
King of the Undermountain: Complete 6 Undermountain quests in a single game
Crime Lord: Complete 6 quests from the Skullport expansion in a single game

For the "Complete 8 X quests," numerous players have had issues with these not unlocking. You can check the Steam forum for other occurrances. I have tried unlocking these (meeting the conditions) about a dozen times, most with just the base game (not playing the expansions) yet none of these unlocked. However, the global achievement stats do show that *some* people are unlocking these achievements.

I have hypothesized that possible factors may be: They have to be played in some order, they need to be in your completed quest pile in consecutive order, they need to be played in the course of one (or two) turns, they need to be played over the course of multiple turns, or Plot Quests don't count. However, I haven't been able to definitively figure out what the game logic is checking.

The most egregious example was in a base game where I played 10 of the Arcana quests and those were the only quests I completed (the AI had the other 2) yet the achievement didn't unlock.

For Well Rounded, the first few times I met the conditions (completed each of the 5 quest types in a single game) the achievement didn't unlock. Eventually it did. In that final game, I *think* I played them out over several turns but those 5 (of different types) were played consecutively and were in that order in the completed quest pile, so I'm not sure if that made a difference.

I haven't been able to unlock King of the Undermountain yet despite having played twice with Halaster and doing 6+ Undermountain Quests. The first time was with just the Undermountain expansion and I played 8 Undermountain quests. The second time was with Undermountain + Skullport where I managed to unlock two other achievements (including Spellbinder) but not King of the Mountain. I'll get to that in a bit.

The first few times the Crime Lord achievement wasn't unlocking (playing with Undermountain + Skullport). Eventually, it randomly did unlock in a game where I played most of my quests in Turn 7 and 8.

Earlier today, I played a game (Undermountain + Skullport) where I unlocked Spellbinder and also Pleased to Meet Me but not King of the Undermountain. Here is what I played (I actually took notes this time!):

Between Turns 2-4, I only completed 3 quests:

1. Seize Citadel of the Bloody Hand (Undermountain Warfare)
2. Swindle the Builders' Guilds (Skullport Skullduggery)
3. Protect Converts of Eilistraee (Skullport Piety)

Completed 6 base-game Arcana quests on Turn 6 but Spellbinder did NOT unlock:

4. Study the Ilusk Arch (Arcane)
5. Expose Red Wizards' Spies (Arcane)
6. Retrieve Ancient Artifacts (Arcane)
7. Recruit for Blackstaff's Academy (Arcane)
8. Infiltrate Halaster's Circle (Arcane)
9. Research Chronomancy (Arcane)

On Turn 8, I completed the following:

10. Host Festival for Sune (Arcane)
11. Unleash Crime Spree (Undermountain - Skullduggery)
12. Survive a Meeting with Halaster (Undermountain - Arcana)

*** At this point, BOTH Spellbinder and Pleased To Meet Me unlocked

13. Break Into Blackstaff Tower (Undermountain - Skullduggery)
14. Defend the Lanceboard Room (Undermountain - Skullduggery)
15. Defend the Yawning Portal (Undermountain - Warfare)
16. Wake the Six Sleepers (Undermountain - Warfare)
17. Battle in Muriel's Gauntlet (Undermountain - Warfare)
18. Form an Alliance with the Rashemi (Piety)

*** King of the Undermountain did *not* unlock.

So my experience with Spellbinder and Crime Lord seem to have been completing the requirements over the course of Rounds 7 and 8.

[Minor Bugs]

Online achievements

Noble: Win 10 Online Games
Extrovert: Play 1 online game
Social Butterfly: Play 10 online games

These seem to only count games played to the end. If you or your opponent forfeits (including running out of time), it does NOT count. My first online game, I ran out of time on the last turn (Round 8, one meeple left). I lost and this did NOT unlock Extrovert. My next game, my opponent forfeited in Round 4. Although this counts as a completed victory under Profile stats and improved my Ranking, it did NOT unlock Extrovert and I am still at 0 / 10 for meeting the Noble requirements.

This could be a bug or it could be what was intended by the designers. It seems like the game logic (for Play 10/30 Offline Games and Score 125 Points) has the achievement unlocking after the game scores are calculated, so with Forfeited games it doesn't reach the scoring screen.

Acquire adventurer achievements:

Cabal: Acquire 9 Clerics in 1 game
Band: Acquire 18 fighters in 1 game
Gang: Acquire 19 Rogues in 1 game
Council: Acquire 11 Wizards in 1 game

There were a few times when I was pretty sure I met the requirements for these but they did not unlock. Eventually, they did unlock in subsequent games. You *don't* need to stockpile them (i.e. have 11 Wizards sitting in your tavern).

Acquire buildings:

Proprietor: Acquire 3 buildings in 1 game
Landlord: Acquire 5 buildings in 1 game

In my very first game, Proprietor did not unlock after acquiring my 3rd building but it did unlock after acquiring my 5th building but Landlord did not unlock after having 8 buildings. In fact, I played multiple games where I had 8 or 9 buildings but Landlord did not unlock. Eventually, it did unlock in a game after getting my 5th building.

Misc.:

An Officer and a Gentleman: Assign the Lieutenant and Ambassador in the same round
Full of Surprises: Play 6 intrigue cards in a single round
Halaster's Heir: Occupy all three Undermountain action spaces at the same time
The Obvious Evil: Collect 15 Corruption in a single game
Rid the Corrupt: Remove 6 or more corruption from the game during a single game
Greedy: In a single game, place a resource of each type on a space that gives that same resource

In all of these cases, it took 2 or 3 tries meeting the conditions before they finally unlocked.

The first time with Officer and a Gentleman, I assigned the Lieutenant as my last action that round and it did not unlock. But it did unlock a few rounds later when I did it again.

The first time with Full of Surprises, it didn't unlock. I was using the Intrigue card (Unexpected Success: Draw 2 Intrigue cards which you can pay immediately) so maybe those additional ones didn't count. Kind of like how when using the Hall of Pillars (Play 3 Intrigue cards) it only triggers Study in the Librarium once (after you take an action that allows playing Intrigue, draw an Intrigue card that you can play immediately).

Took two tries to unlock Halaster's Heir even though the requirements seem pretty straightforward.

The first time I had 16 Corruption, The Obvious Evil did not unlock. On a subsequent try, it unlocked when I was at 12 (after having previously lost Corruption so it was tracking the cumulative gains and not just the current amount).

It took repeated tries to unlock Rid the Corrupt, which basically requires playing two copies of Release the Hounds (each remove 3 Corruption from the game). The first several tries, I played the two cards over the course of different turns (often separated by multiple rounds). Eventually it unlocked after playing the two cards in two consecutive actions. Took the first spot at Waterdeep Harbor and played it. AI took the second spot at Waterdeep Harbor. Then I took the third spot at Waterdeep Harbor and played the other copy. (It is highly likely that at the first spot at Waterdeep Harbor, I might have played an additional Intrigue card using Study in the Librarium).

I met the requirements for the Greedy achievement several times, spaced out throughout the game and it did NOT unlock. Eventually, I did get it to unlock. Note that I did NOT have to place Corruption - I guess that doesn't count as a "resource". I was all set up to use Hall of Three Lords (place 3 adventurers from your tavern on three different spaces), Room of Wisdom (gain 2 clerics and place 1 cleric), and High Duke's Tomb (gain 8 gold and place 2 gold on two separate locations). I also had a Corrupting Influence (place Corruption
at two different locations). Previously, I had used Room of Wisdom several times, including placing gold on the basic building Aurora's Realms Shop. I was trying to do everything on Turn 7 but after using the Room of Wisdom (placing the Cleric on the base building The Plinth) the AI took that placed resource. I wasn't sure if the placed resources needed to be there simultaneously so I waited a round. On Round 8, I used the Hall of Three Lords to place a fighter on the Field of Triumph, rogue on the Grinning Lion Tavern, and wizard on Blackstaff Tower and the achievement unlocked saving me a couple of actions I no longer needed to take. I didn't have to do everything in one turn, the resources did NOT have to be there at the same time, and I did NOT have to place any corruption.

--> Based on my experiences with Spellbinder, Crime Lord, Rid the Corrupt, and Greedy, it really feels like the game logic is partially dependent on the timing and ordering of play.

Just came looking to report the "Complete 8" quests were bugged. I've completed 9 Piety quests in one game and 9 Arcana quests in another game, but neither triggered.

And now I just recieved the "Moral High Ground" achievement. I had 7 corruption earned during the course of the game.

The 8 Warfare one just popped for me. I completed nothing but warfare quests.

The gain 15 corruption achievement is broken, as is the return 6 to the corruption track.

An Officer and Gentleman failed to unlock for me

I got the 8 commerce quest one. But none of the others like that work. I just played 4 player game, got exactly 8 Piety quests - nothing else - no quests left over. Didn't work

I have completed the Warfare and Arcane 8 quest in a game. Somehow. I'm unable to do the rest. Both times I was with Dario (I think it was called. The one who scores 3 points) for each quest. And both times I had complete something like 20-30 quests. Maybe you need to complete your 8-th quest on 8-th turn? Had anyone tried that?

Not seeing any problems. I played Sangalor, so I was going thru corruption and returning it, knocking off both the Absolved and Obvious Evil cheevos in the same game.

Land lord is bugged for me (buy 5 buildings in 1 game)
Avron Feb 24, 2018 @ 11:02pm
The only trouble I'd been having with the complete 8 Arcana or 8 Piety was managing to get that many done, the other three types seemed fine for me.
I played two player base against AI a few minutes ago and had finished nine Arcana before the one Warfare I finished. No achievement.

I did see something somewhere about the Complete 8 XXX Quests all needing to be base game only. I don't know if that means no expansion stuff included at all or if the relevant quests just need to be the originals. (And I don't recall where I saw the limitation so I don't know how valid it is.)

The Complete X achievements don't need to be all base game. I was able to unlock them with the expansions.

Just because he says they are bugged doesn't mean they are bugged. It just means he has a shtty computer that can't process the code. lol

LOL.

I eventually did unlock all the achievements.

But yes, some of them are bugged because they don't unlock when they are supposed to. Plenty of other people also seem to be having trouble unlocking certain achievements despite fulfilling the stated requirements.

And the game has a handful of bugs as well.

these are still bugged, guess they are not going to be fixed
