i've started a new game 2 times, lost everything again.

Which operating system and version are you using? The following information assumes a newer version of Windows. Note that when testing to see if the save worked, just go into the game settings and change something like the volume. Quit the game and restart it to see if that change stuck. (This is faster than playing through the first level.)

See if the game's Steam cloud directory exists. See Steam's support page on "Steam Cloud", question "Where are cloud files stored locally?" for information about the base directory. This game's directory is 643960 . If you've played the game, this should already exist; if not, and the game has started, there may be a problem saving there.

updated 2019 January 1: On my Windows 10 system, inside the 643960 directory was a remote sub-directory. That only contained the file ct2_profile1, which appears to be the actual save game for slot 1. (Slot 2 is ct2_profile2.)

(updated 2019 January 1: while files exist in the following location, they aren't the saves)
These steps check that the files exist in %APPDATA%\iriysoft\Cursed TD2\ .
  1. Go to %APPDATA% (usually something like C:\Users\windows_user_name\AppData\Roaming\ ).
  2. See if the directory iriysoft is in there: it should, if you've started the game; if not, create it (create a folder with that name) and try re-running the game.
  3. If it exists, go into iriysoft and then see if the directory Cursed TD2 is in there. Again, it should exist if you've started the game; if not, create it an try running the game again.
  4. If that directory also exists, go into there (Cursed TD2) and see if there are any files in there. If there aren't, and you've started the game, I'm guessing that the game is having problems writing to that location.

Thank you! :2017stickytube:

I'm having a similar problem but only playing "offline" (I'm often on a VPN which doesn't allow Steam access). It saves fine if I've started and finished playing while online, but if I've severed that connection, progress is not saved.
I've checked and I do have the 643960 directory, along with some save files in the AppData/.../Cursed TD2 folder.

ct2_settings.dat.sol
ct2-config.sav
ga-visitor.sol

EDIT: Played around with this some. If I start the game in offline mode (because of the aforementioned VPN blocks) I don't even show that there is saved game data out there, much less being able to start a prior game that then doesn't save properly.

EDIT 2: this is Win10 64bit

I've noticed it... my game can only be played as online.

Hey! We'll check the issue, thanks for the report.

Hello. I have the same issue but on Ubuntu (Ubuntu 17.04 64-bit). I did notice however that the change I made to set Speed to "Hold" was persisted and loaded correctly. (Got the latest version of the game ATTOW).

Same thing on a MacBook Pro, mid-2012 model. I'm running OSX "El Capitan" 10.11.6.

I really like the game, but my saves aren't kept... it's discouraging. I hope you guys can find a way to remedy this, because this is a solid tower defense game.

Same thing for me on OpenSuse. Changes to game options are being saved, but progress isn't.

Same thing here on Win7x64. :/

The directories all exist, but there are only some settings-files in there, although the game repeatedly stated that it had saved - but there were no saves, neither ingame nor in these folders.

That might be a reason, since I'm not using that... Would it be possible to make the game NOT require these?

From doing more testing, it looks like those files are boring, like resolution and your identification.

It looks like that is the actual save location. I'm not sure, but even with the Steam Cloud disabled, games may still save there (but the files won't be uploaded and downloaded).

Even if you normally don't use cloud saves, you could try enabling it for just this game to see if that at least lets you get started. The save slot's file for my completed game is under 15 KB, so the game save is pretty small.

Ok, so I tried playing the first level while online...
Saving worked, but when I was offline, the game didn't find that save.
When I got back online it did find it again.

Seems the save gets written to:

[steam installation directory] \userdata\[some long number]\643960\remote\

( and no, I didn't need to enable steam-cloud for that )

I now copied it to the games' Appdata-folder - will see if the game recognizes that when I'm offline...

So, I tested it and it didn't work. :(

( btw. it was a roughly 14kB-file, and since that's in accordance with N'fol's comment, and I didn't find more candidates yet, I'd guess it was the correct file )
The hell just started up the game and my save game was/is wiped!

It actually saves your gameplay, but then it forgets it... still in November 2019. The first symptoms were alternating save-files each other run. Then I was ranked beyond 28 and the game did just reset itself. I will try disabling Steam cloud. Arch Linux based system, here.

Great, 2 years after release and saves still don’t work (on Linux). :(
