Fugl
True voxel game?
I've always been fascinated by voxels, but only a handful of games used them and eventually they were replaced by full polygon engines.

Nowadays, it seems some games still use voxel tech, but converted into polygons.

So my question is - is this a "true" voxel game that runs in software mode on CPU or GPGPU?

I've always wanted to see a modern voxel engine or game with proper use of the tech.

Cheers.

If its not "true" voxels then they did a darn good job of making it look like it.

So this is a voxel shader rather than actual voxels? Interesting, but I'd like to hear a confirmation from the devs if this is really so.

Sorry, I wasn't tying to answer your question. I have no idea if these are real voxels or not. I was just trying to say that if they are not real voxels then the devs really did an impresive job making it look like they are.

You might wan to check out Voxelstein. That claims to be real voxels. Its like 10 years old, so not cutting edge modern, but it is a lot newer than the old Novalogic games.

Background is rendered as voxels, foreground as polygons. But i’m working on a new level editor, it will support all kinds of rendering, so you can raycast all of the voxels directly.

The problem woth raycasting is that its slower than polygons, so the screen resolution needs to be lower. But its very steady on the fps.

Also when you say modern engine, i just want to say that commanche and those games were heighmap based, not voxels. But the rendering look looks similar to Fugl.

The game looks very nice.
