The other bar thats mostly green, will go red when you can use a trap, if you are using a mouse, click the right mouse button to activate the trap.
I believe the small red light is when you miss a chance to trap? I am not sure on that one.
Whats "a code" in this game?
Its just to switch rooms? How do I know it went ok?
This is harder than Souls series
But, yes, the light on the bottom left screen blinks red when you miss one. Left click to change cameras. Right click triggers the trap. On the right next to the room screens, there is a small bar under the timer. This is the trap indicator. It'll blink green, then yellow and red when you can trigger the trap.
The color bar above the "Possible/Captured" count is the trap system access color. Like a key card. A few times during the game, the family will randomly change the color. This is the only random part of the main game, as the rest is fully scripted. You have to change that bar with left click to the color they say (watch out for the times when there is a trap you have to set off BEFORE you change the color, since the family hasn't left that other room yet).
Here's the manual. It's helpful.
1- Trap with right mouse.
2- Scan the cameras and trap as many augers as you can when the blinking bar in the middle turns red. The color "code" on the right is a lock for the trap system. It will be changed by characters in the game every so often. Listen to cues. If you miss a cue, you'll have to guess, as it's totally random.
3- If you miss enough augers, you fail.
4- Note: Tyler the developer is already fixing known issues we have found, so if you find some weirdness, just wait for a patch. Or better yet, post specific things on this forum for him to see. Just make sure you're thorough in the report.
After everything everyone else has told you, the only thing I can add is to really make sure you pay attention to the access code color changes... they are random so you can't just look up a guide to what they should be. You can however look up a guide to when and where the event will be triggered. I can't stress that enough, the access codes are a must.
He is patching that in he says. For now I alt+tab and quit the game. You can also alt+F4
I think they could do with an instruction screen just pointing to each part and telling you what it means.
I'm off to trap some Augers, at night, in my traps.
I agree, to people completely new to this game there is no way of knowing what to do. A little in game screen explaining what to do would do well and wouldn't take much effort.
