Nexus: The Jupiter Incident

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident

IS THIS IMPERIUM GALACTICA 3???!!!!
I used to play Imperium Galactica II like crazy in the late 90's. I was in love with that game. Is this the "sequel" that folks were talking about?

Also, any tips?

Can I still send spies on another emperor's birthday and then assassinate them? Or is this just more based on combat and building, less on the intrigue, and trading and politics?

Yes and no. Short story: It was at a certain point Imperium Galactica 3. Things happened. Turned into Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.

It is entirely focused on combat, with a sprinkling of special objectives here and there. There are no base-building or empire management mechanics. As the others said, this isn't IG3 at all. Plans for that game somehow warped into Nexus as we know it today. It's one of the best spaceship combat games of its time, in my opinion. I really hope you come to love it.

Yep, I was looking forward to IG3 (loved 1 and 2, especially 1). It was as you say meant to be IG3, you can still see evidence of it's 4x leanings in the starmap (way more detailed than it needs to be but perfect for a 4x).

I still would love to see this as a 4x game, but that ship has sailed unfortunately. Still there's this to look forward to;

You can kind of see elements of the star system/galaxy screens that could have headed that way... but no.

This. I remember seeing this game in it's earliest beginnings and it was being spoken about as Imperium Galactica 3.

But as Sargoth and Cypher said, IG3 was scrapped and the engine and work to date was converted into, what would become this game.

Way back in the early days when dinosaurs still ruled the earth, CDV announced IG3 and even had a website set up (only text) that was actually still up as of a couple of years ago but has finally closed. A demo was released (google IG3 demo). No 4x, only a space battle which I still find stunning. Of course I am have the same feelings of the game too. CDV, since they had the IG3 rights, tried to shoehorn IG3 into what later became Nexus. In the end, CDV canceled IG3 to focus their marketing on Lulu 3D :steamhappy:

This game was actually supposed to be IG3. And oddly enough IG was supposed to be a sequel to Star Control 3.

Was an era of very confusing IP hand offs and wildly shifting statements from devs. Mainly to get a hold of game engines, as we hadnt destroyed the industry yet by producing public game engines and developers actually had to make their own in most cases.

Engines like Unity and Unreal are one of the root cause of the "broken games" issue in the industry. Now any tard that can click a few menus can make a video game when back then developers knew their games inside and out due to them actually having to code their own engines for them.

Well those engines and allowing games companies to be listed on the stock market via their publishers so that now games are made to pander to investors, not actual players.

Though one thing hasnt changed at all in the industry, artists still need to be on point.

Personally I cannot wait for AI to advance to the point where all we have to do is input some guidelines and it can spit out games, movies and TV shows for us. Def tired of dealing with the human element in entertainment.
