split screen, controller acts as player 2 and 3 (M&K player 1)

Hi there, i know there have been several discussions about the split-screen local co-op problem but none that i have seen seem to mention my problem.

I was first having problems with split screen and the controller controlling both player 1 and 2 but i managed to fix that by going into setting and changing controls to "Mouse and Keyboard" instead of "Mouse, Keyboard and controller".

That seem to fix it, but now i have a problem where when player 2 joins as soon as he/she presses "a" it prompts for player 3 to join

Player 2 then has control of both their character and the player 3.

Please help, i loved the first one and really want to play The escapist 2 with friends and family :D

Hello MayYuki,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Are you using a Mouse and Keyboard to go through the menu until you get to the Character select screen?

When you launch the game can you use the controller from the start and you should not get Players coming in as player 2-3 using the 2 controllers.

Thank you for your response :)

I am using a mouse and keyboard to go through the menu until i enter the prison character selection. Once I set the controls to "Mouse and Keyboard" it no longer let me use the controller in the start game menu.

When i'm in the prison and player 2 enters (using controller) he can join fine, but as soon as he presses "a" on the controller it prompts player 3 to select a character and then player 2 starts to control both his/her character (player 2) as well as player 3s character.

Please help, not sure what i'm doing wrong. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Note: I am using a pro switch controller

How many controllers do you have connected to your PC?

I am using one controller (Pro switch controller) I've also tested it with my steam controller but it did the same thing (both plugged in and tested at separate times).

I also tested to see if two controllers where plugged in, if it would stop prompting player 3 to join, but it seemed player 3 controller (when pressing "a") then prompt player 4 to join the game.

The character on the left is controlled by keyboard and mouse.

The two on the right are controlled by the 1 controller.

Hi again, so i've done some more testing and it seems my xbox one controller works with the local co-op and doesn't prompt to add more players. So i guess my problem has been resolved :)

Just one more question, does this mean it's not compatible with the switch controller? or is there a way to make it work (not add and controller more players)?

Thank you for getting back to us. It's great to hear that you can't play using another controller.

Is your Switch Pro controller set up in Steam options?
Please open Settings > Controller > General controller settings and make sure that Switch Pro Configuration Support is toggled on.

I went into controller settings as you said and the switch pro controller was toggled on. I disabled it and turned the xbox controller toggle on (was testing out controller configurations) and now the Pro controller works!
