We are sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with your controllers in The Escapists 2.
We have just tested it but both controllers seem to be working correctly.
Are you having the problem on the Choose Your Character screen or after a prison load?
Does the problem occur in a particular prison?
Who is the manufacturer of your controllers?

Same goes for Choose Character screen.
No it doesn't happen in a particular prison that I've played so far.
One controller is ps4 controller, the other is ipega.
If I press A for ipega first, ps4 controller becomes the connected one and vise versa.
After another test run,
I've found that whichever controller is used to control the menu first, will be connected to player 1. This is true even when I use keyboard to select character or press spacebar to start the prison load.
The controller AND keyboard is still connected to player 1.
Then player 2 can join by pressing the x button.
If I don't touch any controllers during the menu, the game seems to prefer connecting the ps4 controller with player 1.
Then the IPEGA controller can be player 2 if he press A.
(I hope maybe this extra info may help)
Thanks for getting back to us with the additional information you have provided.
Unfortunately we can't reproduce the issue with our controllers. To check if the issue can be cause by the controllers you're using we would like to request that you please click the controller icon at the top right to enter Big Picture Mode, than select Settings > Controller Settings and make sure that both "PS4 Configuration Support" and "Generic Configuration Support" are toggled on.
