Yea see there's the problem with these sites for me.
I have to check if they're on the level, and to me that's really not worth my time. If I have to check to see if your legit, you probably aren't. And as i'm in a position where i don't have a problem buying products, well those sites just arent worth my time to check if they are legit or not.
If i pay a slightly higher price because i know it's secure well that's the price i pay for security, without the worry of my credit card blance being stolen from me.
/shrug i'm one of those people willing to pay a slightly higher price for security without thought then those will to pay for less security with more thought i guess

Seems the consensus is Steam, GoG, Gamersgate, Humble Bundle, and GMG are legit & good. The bad ones are G2A, Cdkeys, Kinguin, etc. I've bought from G2A & Cdkeys without any problem, for a few Warhammer games (Total War & Dawn of War 3) but I am pretty sure they sell their games for way less because they buy region-free cdkeys in different countries (where the games are cheaper, to match the less valuable currency) and then they resell the key for US dollars at a cheaper price but still a profit. So you're buying keys from other countries. If the key is from that country (region-locked) it can hurt you. If the key is global (mine were for Total Warhammer & Dawn of War 3) then it'll be fine. BUT there are some claims that those three are bad because some keys are bad. I've never experienced it, but I can't guarantee it since I've only used it a few times.
I've used GreenManGaming for like 40+ games. I can definitely vouch for them more than anyone else.
This is exactly why i just don't want to deal with it, i'd rather pay Steam, Origin, um i'm sure one's im missing than deal with 3rd party sites that may or may not be dealing with country locked key's. G2G is a good one that i remember that i think is shady as heck.
Again i'm willing to pay a preimium for secure transactions rather then trying to seek deals with 3rd party sites that may or may not be on the level.
It takes about 10 seconds to google if GoG/Gamergate/Humble/GMG are legit. They are. No one claims they're bad, but everyone says they're legit.
If you can't check the most popular alternative sites for a few seconds on google, then you're spending a lot of extra money just because you're bein a bit lazy, lol.
Check out the link. The Reddit community (thousands of gamers) pretty much has a huge consensus that all those are legit, and tells you also of the illegitimate ones too (and why theyre bad).
Team 17 sells on Steam, but I am pretty sure they also sell elsewhere too. Pretty sure they have to give Gamergate/GMG the keys for them to be sold, since they're legit sites. So Team 17 has a deal with them. How else would they be able to sell for cheaper than Steam?
Like I said, Humble Bundle, GoG, GMG, and Gamergates are well known as legitimate, on the level sites. No one claims they're bad. In the gaming communities, you can ask anyone about them. They are very popular. Ask your friends. None of them will have had a bad experience with those sites, if they've used them.
In fact, GoG had refunds before Steam ever had refunds. Years before. They are far more ethical than Steam.
I'll check them out i've heard that these may be legit sites before but i'm going to level with you here i'm pretty lazy.
I know steam works and i don't mind paying higher prices for a secure transaction...so will i check these places out probably not, im in a position where i don't really care or need to.
I can however see how it might be enticing for those with less money then me to do so.
I would still recommend that people out there are "VERY" careful in dealing with these 3rd party sites maybe you won't get burned today or tomorrow but you might eventually and for a few buck i'm not really a fan of that but you do you man :) no judgements here.
If you don't mind paying Valve extra $5, all the power to you lol. Peace of Mind is definitely worthwhile, especially if you can easily afford it.
I wish the DEVELOPER got the extra $5 though. I really wish we could decide to pay Team 17 more. I think Steam taking 30% of every sale is too high. I want my money to go to the DEVELOPER, not Valve - a company that makes billions every year.
But we don't have that option. I don't believe Team 17 sells on their own website. If they did, I would purchase directly from the developer so they get 97% from me instead of only 70% from Steam.
Actually i agree with you if i could cut steam's 30% out and give it directly to the developer i would as well.
Unfortunately i can't do that and Steam will get what it gets because it's a proven secure transaction. Yes I don't mind that they may get 5 bucks more from me because they are a proven transaction system.
Going through a 3rd party site does not give the developer's more money to my knowledge all it does is put your personal finances at more of a risk though.
To me it's a bad deal and feelz bad man
