I'd like to add that this is still a problem. I don't understand why the center room function doesn't work. It obviously used to work because I'm pretty sure that's what I used to center the game in the first place. There must be a setting saved in a file somewhere to reset the values.
I also don't understand why different profiles have different room centers. When I click between two profiles, the center shifts. Like... the physical play area I'm standing in has a definite center that doesn't move regardless of what profile I select in a game.
If you want a quick fix and don't care about your profile data, start the game with the '-reset' launch option. It wipes everything though, and you'll have to set your profile up as well as any others again. Also, you'll probably want to clear it after you're done playing or it'll keep wiping your profile every time you start.
Took a quick look, couldn't find where the settings are stored yet.
Go to your main Steam folder and go to \userdata\[Your SteamID #]\641960\remote
Open the file with [#]_account.json
Find "roomOffset":{"x":[numbers],"y":[numbers],"z":[numbers]}". It'll be among the numbers for controllers offsets somewhere near the top. If you have multiple profiles set up in BoxVR, each person has their own room offset saved, so make sure you're changing the right one.
Replace the numbers with zeros and save.
Go into BoxVR, load your profile, and hit 'Recenter Room' ONCE, make due with it being close, but not perfect and NEVER ATTEMPT TO RECENTER THE ROOM EVER AGAIN.
That, or if you took the time, you could tweak the numbers manually to get it perfect.
I too had the game unplayable due to the two recenter options both being outside of my play area, but thanks to your advice I was able to change the numbers directly to get it back in a good location. I can't imagine why they didn't just put a couple of sliders in the settings menu...
