How to hit uppercuts
I was missing almost all right uppercuts and getting really frustrated. Had a search and saw people other people were in the same boat, and were talking about messing around with the latency setting, about maybe the devs widening the hitboxes more for the targets etc.

This is what worked for me, in case others are still struggling:
I decided to try something different in game - instead of looking way down the room to try and see what was coming, I just focused immediately in front of me at the hit area where my hands were swiping.
This immediately corrected the problem I was having. What I had been doing was unconsciously anticipating the more difficult upper cuts, and therefore accidentally trying to hit them a tiny bit ahead of time. Sometimes I was also unconsciously leaning forwards. When I refocused my attention on just the area where I was hitting the targets, right in front of me, these issues pretty much went away.

Another thing that helped with the upper cuts was just making totally sure I was coming up vertically, not too much from the side. This is a bit more of a problem and it seems to me the devs could really do with giving us a bit more leeway on the angle of the upper cuts; the targets are pretty central compared to the player's body, and you're naturally going to be coming in a bit from the side (from where you arms are!) instead of in a direct straight vertical line up from the centre of your torso.

I also think it'd be great if the tutorial could be a bit longer and more involved. Hitting the stationary targets is not at all like hitting the moving ones, and the early workouts tend to give you just a few opportunities to repeatedly do uppercuts/hooks (the more difficult moves).

Alternatively, a custom mode where you can choose to just focused on left or right, uppercut, hook or jab... would be awesome. Especially the left/right thing; I imagine most people are like me and have quite an imbalance in strength between left and right.

Overall though, awesome workout, I'm really glad I spent my Oculus store credit on it! Thanks devs!

Hi El Grillo, thanks for your feedback! We will be revisiting our tutorial very soon so watch this space! A custom mode also sounds like a great idea, keep it coming! We hope you continue to enjoy BOXVR!

Thanks! It's great and I'm using it as my half hour morning workout now :-D Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the new tutorial.

I just installed the game and I'm having the same issue. My only consistent misses are the right-hand uppercuts. I'll try what you said about watching my timing and angle. But yeah, maybe the programming can be changed to be a little more forgiving, if it's a consistent issue for a large number of players.

Well, I've tried changing latency, how I hit, etc. I still haven't found a way to consistently get the right-hand uppercuts to hit. Honestly, it has completely ruined playing this game in any competitve mode for me. Hopefully this will get fixed soon, because this game would be perfect if it was fixed.

Hi El Grillo and cappaholic, thanks from writing to us. If you are still having issues with your right uppercuts could you send us a video of your gameplay so we can have a greater understanding of your issue? Please send the video to Support@fitxr.com, thanks!

Well, I already requested a refund and uninstalled the game. It may have been a little impulsive, but I was pretty frustrated... to the point that I didn't want to play. I can re-download it and try again, but now it's not on sale so I'd be losing money if it still doesn't work.

i second the call for a custom mode where we can enable/disable uppercuts etc. I just want to punch to music, I dont want to thjink too uch and the randomness of all diofferent punch methods makes it too manic for me, just a mode where it was simple left right would be preferable in my case.

You get used to it, take it from me. Any combination is manageable after several hours and regular habitual play.

In my experience the uppercut logic is looking for the vertical path in your punch. I find it lands more consistently when I "over exaggerate" the motion with a dip in my knees leading into the punch. I find I sometimes miss in a song beat drop if I start to fall behind the punches and my uppercut is not exaggerated enough.

edit for more info.
Also hit boxes are adjusted based on feet placement. Make sure your feet are where they should be as shown on the floor. I tend to scoot back in a long session and the farther back you are from where you should be... the hit box ends more in front of you.

Yeah, the only way I've managed to get it to work is to crouch while punching. Which is probably not bad for exercising, but I'm not sure whether it's intentional.

i found uppercutrs easy once I stopped trying to be 'gamey' and looked at my gloves and did a proper boxing uppercut. Hit every one since then.

I tried everything, and it never improved. I even got to a point where I'd stare at the ball and focus on hitting it. Also, tried exaggeratingg the hit. Just very inconsistent. I think I was maxing out at about 50% no matter what I tried.

Just bought, installed and tried my first couple of games. Just like cliffski writes, once i did proper full motions, it was much easier and i was able to hit everything more or less in my first try at survival mode. Suuuper sweaty now haha.

It does seem that the objects are sometimes slightly off the rhytm though, but then again it could also be me.

After reading several comments along these lines, and occasionally having trouble myself, I was thinking that some sort of troubleshooting mode where the game tells you *why* your move didn't register would be nice. Too early? Too late? Not enough amplitude to your swing? Wrong arm angle? I find that if I focus, I can hit uppercuts a lot more reliably, but sometimes I start missing, and I don't usually have a clue about what I'm doing wrong.

That’s a brilliant suggestion.
