The beginner, Intermediate and pro modes are not an exact representation of angle, horizon, and acro, all be it similar.. they aren't the same.. Unfortunately there is no way to change those currently.. however.. we will be changing these modes in the future to be that of angle, horizon and acro.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience... If you'd ever like one on one help/lessons with flying, I'd be happy to help you! I've been flying for years and have trained hundreds of pilots! Happy to help! Let me know.
You can send me a friend request if you'd like and also join the rest of the community on the DRL Discord Server. Here's the link! https://discord.gg/p7ndQHz
Look forward to flying with ya!
Tony "KaNoodle"
I find the training modes in DRL are insanely frustrating. I'm not new to flying and I find that the altitude hold in beginner or intermediate is unrealistic but the road to pro training is about impossible.
I read that I should "suck it up" and fly rate... but damn it's hard. It's not to bad with fpv in a big open space but around obstacles I have a heck of a time both in real life and in sim.
I have quite a bit of time with LOS planes of all types, more recently with FPV planes of all types. I can put my flying wings through soccer goal posts or such whatever pretty consistently.
I have just a few days with a Gecko quad. I thought I would catch on more quickly. I must say I am impressed with the durability. I used to have a 450 heli and I never really learned to fly it due to crashes. Quads are a game changer in durability.
My biggest problem with the quad is sensing my lateral velocity, I am always drifting. in sim or real. I though I would learn to fly slowly and accurately and then work on speed. My problem is how quickly speed builds up before I sense it.
I guess I just need lots more practice.
Yeah the modes are a little odd... however... we created those modes for people who have no experience what so ever.. We have found that they are WAY more helpful for brand new people.. but seem to create confusions and difficulty for people with even just a little experience. So thats why we're going to re-vamp them in the future to be exact Angle, horizon modes.
But.. What you are experiencing is normal.. kwads are NOT easy to fly.. (contrary to what you see on youtube... lol, we tend to make it look super easy but its certainly not.. LOL) and people who have flown other RC vehicles in the past a lot, tend to have a hard time getting that difference down, since they have so much muscle memory from flying other RC vehicles.
But.. good news, I can help ya out.. Join the discord server (i recommend downloading the app both on your pc and phone, makes it easy to be involved in the really active community on there) and allow me to help ya out.. I can get ya flyin in no time! Meanwhile.. What I would do is lower your rates, and fly acro only in a freestyle environment, open field with a couple trees. Every pilot I train on here I always have them use the map called "Shrek training grounds". You can search for it in the community maps and practice on there.. Also here is a link to a video that someone was asking me to make for them, to help with halting momentum with turns (basically how to solve the drift out issue on turns that kwads have). Here ya go! (keep in mind, Someone requested this and i threw it together in a few minutes, nothing fancy or formal) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6toQufB7A0
As for lower rates, I would need to know what rates you are currently flying with, but if you join the discord server, there is a channel in there called "#Show-me-your-rates" and there are a ton of peoples screenshots of their rates they are using. So jump on in there!!
See ya there!
