Plans for a Linux release?
Hey guys,

Just wanted to know if you had plans to release a linux version for this? I personally don't care much for it but my work colleague is also a fan of kwads, and he told me he is pretty bad at contronlling them. Poor fella spend all of last winter building MULTIPLE kwads, but then when he tried them he found out it's harder than he expected and he's getting discouraged.

I used to fly in DRL back when it was a free Alpha (or Beta I don't remember), and I just got it on steam yesterday. I'm on Windows, but my colleague is on linux at home. I know DRL enough to be persuaded it would help him develop his skills, as the first time I flew a real racing/acrobatics drone after training in DRL Simulator, I was already pretty darn good with it. So I want my colleague to try this :P. If it could just make him more relaxed as he flies, not worrying about breaking anything, it would already help him a lot! That was the main thing sims helped me with. To not be scared to be aggressive on the sticks.

Thanks!

Any progress on Linux support? Looking to potentially buy this to play w/some colleagues who play DRL on Windows, but I run Linux at home... I'd be happy to buy in and participate in a Beta if there is one for Linux?

Hi there!

No i'm sorry, we dont have any plans currently to provide support for Linux with the DRL sim.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Go check out Liftoff. It works like a charm on Linux, and the simulation is way better anyway. DRL Sim is a game. Liftoff is a simulation.

I've tried Liftoff.

Yeah, it runs on Linux, but that's all, it falls behind DRL in everything else.

Currently DRL *can* work on linux thanks to mf-install : https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install, which allows to play the initial cutscene and run the game. It's really promising as launching DRL would just show you a black screen just a few months ago.

HOWEVER, RC controllers don't work, they are detected, but DRL doesn't detect the channel input. Seems like it could fully work with proton if that single thing was fixed.

I'll have to do with Liftoff for now :( but it seems like DRL is close to be fully working on Linux.
wut? Have you ever flown a real drone???
Sad about lack of linux support :(
DRL works fine with Proton, the only thing that needs to be fixed is joystick input.

Even DCL works better than DRL on Linux on Proton... actually it was one of the easiest to setup the transmitter.

From our, Linux, perspective it should just work like any other game does. It is only DRL that refuses to show inputs.
Unfortunately broken input under proton is the issue of the proton, not of the game.
I installed Liftoff in compatibility mode with proton and guess what... controller does not work.
Of course same controller works fine if native linux Liftoff is installed.
A recent review on ProtonDB explained that if we skip CH3 for our sticks in the mixer, we can use a radio to play DRL.
I managed to setup my TX16S this way. (only sticks work though, no switches...)
Here is the link: https://www.protondb.com/app/641780
Little update about setting up switches.
I managed to map switches from the radio to keyboard presses by using "qjoypad".
Little explanation:
- add the switches to your mixer on your radio.
- temporary switch seems to need to be offset 50% and weight 50% to work properly.
- I bound my switches to E and R.
It works flowlessly in DRL now!
DRL plays great for me on Arch Linux...I just cant seem to get my tx16s to work! first it was no throttle then I fixed that by changing throttle from channel 3 to channel 5 in my radio and now I guess the devs have changed up the controller settings and I cant seem to get any input at all? but the game DOES see my radio... it lists it in the game....idno what to do
Pals, does DRL work on Linux now?
DRL works on linux, for your controller you need to make a profile (if you're on the TX16 or something) and change the channels for some reason (you can do that in the mixes on the controller).
Here are my channels setup:
- ch1: Thr -> Thr
- ch2: Ail -> Roll
- ch3: NA
- ch4: Rud -> Yaw
- ch5: Ele -> Pitch
The any other channel for the buttons, but not all will be recognized in game.
(For reposition, reset etc, I still use the keyboard)
Good luck!

I'm using both Boxer and Pocket in Bluetooth Mode on Linux. Do "Manual Calibration" first for the sticks, ignore the Buttons, then set up the Buttons for Restart/Reset with "Channel Selection" (scroll down, Switch C is Channel 31 or so). Works fine for me
