The team predominantly uses the Taranis X9D. It's compatibility between game and real life drone, is second to none. And it's an all around solid transmitter.
I would also recommend doing a bit more research to make sure what ever transmitter you choose, fits your needs best.

There are many great radio systems out there and the price you can pay for them varies, I use a Turnigy 9XR PRO with a 4in1 multi protocol module which allows me to use nearly every type of reciever on the market, for example I've been mainly using DSM2/DSMX recievers in my drones and an Orange DSM2/DSMX wireless usb dongle to use my sims like drl. I do know the 9XR PRO is on sale at hobbyking as I bought a second for a backup and test unit, I have now been flying drones for about 18 months and have found the 9XR PRO to be a great first TX whch is just as good as the Tararnis but for much less money.
Another thing I've found is that drone pilots are always ready to provide advice as it saves others the trouble of the mistakes and slip ups we wish someone had told us. So if your new to drones and flying them just remember it's all your choice as to what you wish to use and how much you wish to pay so I would also advise doing some research and watch some videos on youtube before you start spending your money.

Thank you guys for the recommendations, the Taranis X9D seems a bit pricey to me to start with, but maybe it is a good investment. Turnigy 9XR pro looks nice and a bit cheaper at least, but I have to watch some reviews first.
If there are more people with specific recommendations, I would love to read them.
I own two turnigy radios (9XR and 9XRpro) and use 3.5mm audio cable to connect the trainer port to my PC running smart propo plus and vjoy software.
DRL is impossible to play like this for some reason.
The downside of using trainer port with PPM is the resolution, There is only about 25 steps for every axis of movement and throttle, and this is why you cannot fly very well on this sim.
Honestly, I would just bite the bullet and go with tarannis. I cannot say from experience how well DSM2/DSMX works but if it gives true resolution for the inputs that would be the ideal setup with turnigy radio. I might try it out myself.
I'm like you, I have two 9XR PRo radios and use a 4in1 multi protocol module which allows me to use any protocol I wish, this means with the Orange wireless dsm2/dsmx usb dongle I'm able to use DRL without the hassel of a cable that gets in the way. I did use the vjoy setup and found it so bad I just got angry with it.
If you want to get the same setup as me you'll find the dongle on hobbyking for about £12 (very good price) and the multi protocol module from Banggood (iRangex version) about £30-£40.They are both well worth getting as they will end up paying for themselves with all the money you'll save because your nolonger stuck to one brand.
