Tutorial for Beginners
Hey there,

If you do not like reading, here is video of flying around and shooting bots ... :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBCqFZhg9Es

Just let me begin, that I am also a beginner compared to other players, but that is the "Gods-Ants" problem you encounter in multiplayer games. So it is very unlikely that you get opponents which are at a similar skill-level than you are, so ether you practice and win or you learn and loose.

Back to the tutorial.

First of all, this is a game about flying and shooting, so you need to practice both, ideally individually when starting.

Flying:

Flying in all directions, looking in all directions.

The flying (I find this really great) is just like flying a drone in "GPS-mode" (if you are familiar with multicopter). So basically you are free to fly in every direction which you should practice (not only flying forward). You are also free to look in every direction (independent of the flight direction) this you should practice. You need to scan your environment, the scanners are your eyes, to look around while flying especially cover you back, cover you back right up, back right down, back left up, back left down ... There is a huge dead angle (more than a semisphere) if you just look in the direction you fly. If you cannot find your opponent, probably he is already right behind you.

Flying in 3D, unpredictable path changes

Most beginners just fly somehow like a car which drives around at a certain height level, of course this is ok, but you have the option to go up, down, left right and back also, so you should use is. Especially avoid you flightpath look like a 2D race track, as you can also do circles up and down, you can fly a helix, and even somewhat like insects do. The more predictable your path, the easier the aiming for your opponents.

Flying at max speed

Of course you need to get used to the controls, but everything you fly, it is just making it most difficult for you opponents if you move at max speed. Max speed you achieve with BOTH thrusters, and both using the BOOST (that is only available for short time and needs to recharge). You can also use your boost alternating from left to right, than you have a bit less speed but for double the time (just use both thrusters and one boost)

3D memory

As you fly for some time you get used to the maps, and you should know in advance how your map looks like (in 3D) so basically you know (even without seeing) that if you enter the pyramid, where are the openings to get out and where you could get back in again. You can even practice flying only backward (looking forward) and avoid obstacles just by the awareness how that feels in 3D.

Shooting

Shooting when not moving ...

Just choose a position in a map of your choice (where bots can find you) and shoot them. Shoot them with the left gun only, that with the right gun only, then using both. Your aim is to reduce the time for aiming and you want to save ammunition, so basically every shot should be a hit.

Shooting when moving ...

You now do the same, just fly around using your left thruster and the gun in the right hand and shoot bots, the aim is to reduce aiming time, every shot should be a hit, and you need to work on, that the flight direction, is independent from your aiming and looking direction. The using the thruster in the right, and gun in the left hand.

Full speed max firepower.

Now you practice jetting around at max possible speed and when you encounter a target, using both guns. The aim is the reduce the aiming time and the accuracy, every shot should be a hit. Important is if you have the kill you jet away from the location at max speed, so move, fire, move, fire, move, fire.

Now, if you get close to your first 1000 bots, you should have become a pretty decent flyer and shooter.

Special to VR

Make them turn

So flying in every direction is no problem, but a problem (that needs to be practiced) is turning. That is hard for everyone, if you have a wire, there is the problem with this damn thing, if you are wireless turning is still a pretty inconvenient move. If you can do e.g. 180°/s you are already pretty good.
The point is, you need to use this in combat, if you get them to turn beyond 180° you get them in a pretty uncomfortable situation, the wired ones will mess around with their wire, an the wireless ones will at least feel very uncomfortable if this was not practiced before. If you now add an up and down, you can make them even more crazy (and you will get too).

Weapons

Assault rifle is pretty good

Each weapon you want to use, needs to be practiced. From my point of view, I really enjoy the revolver most, as you get a kill with one shot from both hands, but during a multiplayer game, due to latencies, it is getting at least a bit less accurate, and ineffective. So to me the simple assault rifle is most effective, in range and damage. The others look nice but do not surpass the assault rifle.

Special abilities

Do not forget the radar

The same here, you need to practice, the shockwave is very efficient e.g. during a reload of your weapon, but here I personally find it most important to know where my opponents are located, so the radar (even on both hands) is my first choice. Of course the more players the less important to know where they are, as they will swarm around like a set of hornets.

tactics

kill and being killed

Not too much here, but getting killed is part of the game, so if this happens, you opponent is most likely also damages, so you respawn, remember where the fight was, and head there with max thrust, or to the next heath diamond.
On the other side, if you got a kill, you head with max thrust to one of the respawning locations, if you have a radar, use it now! If you are damaged to much you need to get a diamond before.

outmanouver, aim, kill

The "outmanouvering" part of the game is from my point of view pretty big, it is even some sort of dogfight. Shields only last for 5 seconds, also does stealth. If you are close, move around if you get the perfect aim, then tic tic. If you are distant (but in range) move (still with one hand) and shoot with the other immediately.

detect before being detected

The first phase is always find your opponent before he finds you. If you found him and a sneak approach from behind is possible, do so, if not engage open battle, approach with "erratic manouvers" and kill before you get killed. Do not head to your opponents position, do head to his extrapolated position where he will be when you reach him )possibly there is a different route. If there are e.g. three choices go for one (do not hesitate) in 1/3rd of the cases you have done the right one, for the other two you improvise.

Now just have a lot of fun with that game.
