I had trouble getting it to work but managed with DS4 and Steam Big Picture. Just make sure you have controller setting enabled both on big picture gereral setting and game setting. Just with DS4, without Big Picture, the game enables 2nd player without inputs and mess everything up.

I used PS4 controller to play this game but it will only display xbox buttons like X, Y , B , A and not X , O , square , triangle.
