About the weapon "upgrades"

So, when you reach some place in the story your weapons will change for example when you reach the uncrossable jungle your weapons go from wood to Metal, does this change anything or is it just a cosmetic change?

Only upgrades are the ones you set yourself such as the different fighting moves. Anything else is cosmetic

i think it was probably ninjanuity but i felt stronger on each change
