Level Editor Basics:
- Open the menu with ESC or Start (don't hold it down as that will jump you into play mode)
- Select 'Elements'
- Select whichever element you want
- Place the element in the level - either by snapping onto another element or snapping it on the grid.
- Some elements have additional properties that can be accessed via Space or Y
- Some elements have inputs/outputs these can be connected by dragging from one icon to another. Try adding a "Billie Jean Button" and a "Piston" and connect them.
- Locked items can be "bought" for cassette tapes
- To unlock items with stars you need to have collected as many powerups in the main game
- Go to 'Styling' from the menu to adjust time of day, etc.
Map Editor Basics:
- On the map the levels you've made can be connected.
- You should add at least one portal to each level for this to work correctly.
- Simply drag from one portal dot to another to connect them.
- Big wires can also be connected between levels - this is done in the same way, and can be used to activate things in one level from another level, as seen in the main game.
If you have more questions just ask - we're happy to help!
Fantastic game but the editor need a tutorial for sure.
If you’re using a controller:
- In play mode hold down “Start” to enter the editor quickly
- In editor mode tap “Start” to open the menu
If you’re using keyboard/mouse:
- In play mode hold down “Esc” to enter the editor quickly
- In editor mode tap “Esc” to open the menu
We will be working on making it more accessible in the coming weeks, as we are rolling out the the first test versions of level sharing.
Also, I'm unable to force adjacent levels to connect to specific doors. When I drag the connection line over the door I want on the map, then play the level and go into the door to test it, on the connected level I will often enter from the wrong door. I can't find a way to stop it from doing this.
EDIT 2: first question removed, another added
Entering a level from the wrong portal sounds buggy, I’ll check if there is something funky going on tomorrow. Are you doing anything besides connecting the portals on the map?
I can't seem to figure out how inter-level wires work though, I've connected them between levels and both ends of the wire light up but nothing activates on the receiving end. The only thing I did that was different was change the wire's colour to yellow in object properties.
I also can't remove [Start With] abilities, when I first started I went through the list and activated all of them but when I turn any of them off nothing happens.
As for the wires between levels:
- Only the "Wire Thick" and "Wire Mega" let's you connect across levels.
- Level A: Wire Input (Square + Arrow Up) should be connected to a button or similar.
- Level B: Wire Output (Circle + Arrow Down) should be connected to the object you want to activate ie. a bridge, piston, door or similar.
- Connect the wires on the map and it should work.
It can be a little tricky to see which end is which on the map, we will update the iconography so it's easier to distinguish them.
(Reason: if powers are already stored in save game they will not be disabled when changing in map editor menu)
However after looking at the other thread I used your state box with variable method which solved it, thanks. (just named it Cable01)
There is one other thing, I don't know what the security camera input is for. Output obviously works fine, though with input I tried hooking up switches and other triggers but they don't make it do anything. I thought they might turn the camera off, can't really think of what else could input to the cameras.
P.S. ty for still being so active here, apart from the little bugs you guys actually made a pretty awesome editor (and game too
