Men of War: Assault Squad

How to beat Overlord?
Seriously this is probably the hardest level of any game I've ever played. I cannot get beyond the town. I've now spent about 20 hours total trying different strategies, but as soon as I capture the center the AI rolls out their Greyhounds and tank destroyers. It's over before I can react. The AI also has an infinite supply of AT guns near the field, so you can't even think about sending anything over there or you get a whole squad immediately killed. The one thing I've had success with are mortars, but you only get 2 of those. Tanks are useless if you move off the beach, you get one shot instantly by AT infantry or their endless tank destroyers. Rangers work to capture the flank, but they also get one shot by the half dozen AT teams.

AI does not have infinite supply of at guns, there is specific number of at guns and not infinite based on difficulty. One thing that works well agains tthem is mortar or infantry that can sneak or flank. You have to play a bit more patient, buy infantry, at guns and other resources but dont push them, place them around map in places where they cannot be seen from all angles, especially at guns place them behind cover or houses so that when enemy tank comes in usually he will not spot the at gun until you at least have first shot from the side. Further, build sandbags with infantry and man any mg stands. Setup a defense once you capture first 2-3 flags, and then have 2 mortars, 1 on each side you can set mortar to attack ground at some location within range where at guns or other targets are and once its destroyed you can cancel it from constant fire. If enemy tank approaches and you can afford to hide, do so and let it come close wher eyou can possibly take it out with at infantry and even fix.

I assume you are playing on normal right? If you want add me when you have time I can play coop with you on that map assuming you have time and can play online.

Yes I'm on Normal. The thing about patience though, I am extra patient. I thought part of my problem was being TOO patient and building defenses up. I even go as far as planting mines and hedgehogs on my flanks. But I ALWAYS get overrun no matter how much AT defense I have up.

The last game I got 4 Shermans, 2 Chaffees, 2 Rangers, 2 light AT guns all up at the same time and the AI took the Shermans out in about 3 minutes - no joke. Their AT infantry avoided my machine guns and snipers and walked right up to them. Then the AI brought out their StuGs and I couldn't pen their frontal armor with any shell type, and they flanked me and ended it fast.

Just to make sure I wasn't crazy about unlimited AI tanks, I played for over 60 minutes on Overlord just now and counted 33 armored units (all AI). There were about 13 tank destroyers, a dozen light tanks, and the rest were Panzer IVs (if I know my tanks, and I think I do). Yes, 33 of them. I had nearly 20 dead tanks by the time I closed the game. There were so many dead AI tanks they clogged the road and needed Panzer IVs to move the dead ones into the grass. Literally it was a field of dead tanks.I didn't even get halfway down the road.

Sucks because it's fun until it becomes unfairly impossible. I refuse to lower the difficulty, so I'm probably about done with it.

if i'm thinking of the right map (works for most maps actually) you can cheat and ignore the flags. the enemy spawn waves and upgrades are triggered by taking a flag, so you can ignore them to setup defenses before you cap, or just clear the map entirely.

Yeah I had noticed that, but I figured what's the point. I uninstalled it tho anyway, running short on space. Lots of other games to get to..

I might be bad, but at least I'm not spending Saturday night combing over forum posts from 10 years ago. I can't even remember which game this is it's been so long. You need some grass to touch.
