traps?

In the first mission my guys walk in the foliage and die for no reason. Are there traps? If so how do I see them and neutralize?

There is a punji stick trap, and quick sand. I can't remember any others, or a way to detect them.

As skohana said, your not dying for no reason, your walking onto things that will kill you.

I understand this but I cant see them and have no way to detect them apparently so this seems foolish.

Well they are traps, and pit traps were used a lot in that War. I don't think there're random so if you save often you should be OK. I didn't play this game as much as the other one's so I don't have a lot of experience with the traps. I was disappointed that I couldn't use more of the vehicles and weapons from that War.

the traps do stand out slightly, look for a oval shape, just a little different shade than the ground.

this is historicaly accurate many vietcong traps couldn;t be seen and were a constant threat with little to no options to disarm them
