Should I buy this game?

Now that it's on sale I've always had this game on my wishlists but idk if its any good. To the Yakuza vets here, is it worth it?

Yes. Perfect entry to the franchise. If you'll like it - you'll like the rest. If not - not much would be lost. Y0 is hella cheap during sales

I purchased the whole series during the Christmas sales and I gotta say, so far I have completed 0 and basically halfway through 1 and I don't regret my purchase, these are very fun games with a lot of content to enjoy and a fun combat system

If you would like to experience a good story , and doesn't mind reading , definitely.
The combat is satisfying as well , really worth the price .(even at full)

Can't call myself a massive Yakuza fan since I only played 3 games in series, but
This game gives you insane amount of content for the money you pay for it.
It features very manly and dramatic main story, spiced with utterly goofy side stories and side quests. Gives you both tears and good laughs.
It will be quite a challenge to 100% it if you'll want to.

But it's definitely worth checking out and play through main story at least.
Gives you memorable and unforgettable experience.
Sometimes I even scold myself, how did I even manage to never know about the series most of my life.

Yakuza Vet here, played 0 before the "dame dane" memes even originated, was in my library because it was a 3rd person rpg in an open district so it ticked my open world love hence the buy, as of now in 2025 i have 100%ed every game all the way til yakuza 7 and judgment, havent started lost judgment, gaiden or 8 yet but i will do very soon. This series is amazing, the characters and story are all worth grabbing popcorn for, combat is amazing in all games, even the remaster of the 2009 one. Just make sure you really pay attention to the story because ALOT of beats are reintroduced and referenced in future games making it flow very nicely when you hear about something that u remember from a previous game

I started the series about a year and a half ago, and have completed all of them. This is by far one of my favorite franchises, and Yakuza 0 is a great entry point, and I would recommend starting here and working chronologically through the series if you end up digging it. Yakuza 0 has great stories, tons of stuff to do, and has a pretty fun beat-em-up combat system. I'm actually replaying it now doing a 100% run while I wait for the Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii to come out. One of the protagonists in this game is actually the main protagonist in that game as a fun side not. You will love his character.

On the plus side - assuming saves can be transferred; the sale usually is 0/K1/K2, so there's always grabbing the bundle on sale if you like 0 to "re-align dividends" lol. Back-log can never be "too big" after-all

Especially since each game seems to have a NG+ cycle (only played LaD1 and then am on CH9 of this one right now).

OP, I'm in the same boat as I was trying out my first Yakuza game and Yakuza 0 was perfect for me. There are a few vague references to other games but the game does a nice job to introduce you to the characters while still being its own game.

Also, as some said, they have Yakuza 0/Kiwami 1/Kiwami 2 packages. I got all three games on Playstation for $10 on sale which is a great deal. Seems these games go on sale every other month so there's always deals.
