new to yakuza games any tips for fighting?
So I am at chapter 4, I took a looooong break so I am getting back into the game (and on hard at that haha). Really enjoying it especially the story and I should qualify I didn't stop because it was too hard, it was because other games came out at the time that dragged my attention away.

But issue I am having is 2 things:

Heat or special attacks: so I get your supposed to build up his meter and press Y (or whatever button prompt it is for you) but I don't know when I am actually supposed to use it? because it feels kinda random. Like sometimes my meter is filled but I press and even hold Y and all he does is kick them. then at other times he does the special move (for majima its his neck snap thing). I believe I must have something wrong but looking at the notebook page I can't work out what I am doing wrong.

Getting attacked from behind/multiple angles: ok so I am fine with 1v1 attacks or even 2v1 when they are in front of me. Issue is most of the fights are 3v1 or more and I always get guys jumping me from behind and stun locking me which on HARD is not what you want to happen haha. Issue is dodging doesn't always work as I am either ending an animation or I am already getting struck, sometimes it can even be I just didn't dodge out the way enough. Then I tried turning to block but I can't get him to turn without having to run and turn around I dunno if there is a specific button to switch to other opponents. Then lastly I tried hitting X (light punch) and backwards to see if he will turn and punch but most of the time he either just punches the guy in front or turns around and then punches.

What is it I am doing wrong and any tips would be really nice. I don't want to lower the difficulty either since I like the challenge of games on hard and I am enjoying it otherwise. Just need to pass this hurdle

Look at the description of the Heat Action. Some are only available when a guy is attacking, or when he's by a wall, or only when you grab them or only when there's two people there. I do agree it can be iffy when the prompt keeps appearing and disappearing but that's usually because enemies take actions which can cancel your chance at them.

Dodging is nice but sometimes just running your character out of the way is good enough. I only used dodge for very precise dodges like when guys with guns are shooting at you.

No need. Once you get this stuff down, you'll find Hard mode to be quite easy.

Also, don't forget you can get weapons like guns and shotguns. These can potentially break the game and ruin almost every fight. If you're really struggling in a brawl, bust out a weapon and you'll take down most guys in two or three shots.

Only one immune is Mr Shakedown but he's vulnerable to the Smoke Gun/Zap Gun which are shotguns you can acquire. These will nerf any encounter in the game but will also make Shakedown pretty easy.

To get them, Bob Utsunomiya will give Majima a Smoke Gun with his free packs...after that he can just buy them from that Tiger store. You can also use the "Repair" option to refill their ammo there. You can get a Zap Gun fairly easily by using the "Send Agent" option to get materials later on.

Check if you're using an accessory called Charismatic Autobiography, it makes enemies go nuts on you

aahhhh all valid tips cheers for that. Yeah I should probably try just running more. Think I am trying to play it too much like sleeping dogs or something but end of the day dodge is supposed to be more specific in this game and the tutorial does say "you may not want to lock onto enemies too much as you can get trapped" so I should probably play more lax with it. Thanks for explaining the heat thing too I didn't realise it was specific to situations etc, I just thought it was a case of build the meter up and unleash. As for the guns I didn't know this game actually had any. I saw a golden shotgun but assumed it was a mod. I know yakuza zombies had them but I didn't realise they were in the main game too. Ill keep an eye out

cheers!

I have seen this suggested before but I don't think I have any charms yet. Not activated ones anyway
