How do i use "harsh lesson"?

Majima has this move in thug style that he learns from komaki, which is called "harsh lesson".
You perform this move by holding RB/R1 and you press Y/triangle when an enemy attacks you (only when you have the heat meter at lvl 3).
This move is actually decent if i remember correctly the one time that i have used it PER ERROR....
The thing is, not only does this command input overlaps with his "choke out" heat action, but it doesn't work even against enemies who cannot be attacked by this heat action.
So how the hell am i supposed to use this thing? I have 115 hours at this game but i still have to understand how it works...

needed 3 heat bar to use it and lock on + grab never see this overlaps with his heat action before if it overlaps with the heat action hold the reset camera button it will stop you from doing any heat action

i didn't know the heat action thing, that's so nice to know as i was so annoyed by being forced to use it. Thank you for the tip ^-^

The input is a lie on the menu, it is a mistranslation in the English version.

You have to be in 3rd mode as thug, and hold R1. Then when enemy attacks, time it like any other counter but press grab and not heavy attack button. Otherwise, you do heat action like the other person said. Hope this helps.
