Rush while better for one on ones, with abilities learned from the trainer you can gain massive heat from dodging along dodging while being hit.
Beast: Can clear rooms of enemies with some heat moves or honestly having any object hit like a freight train. While the lack of speed sucks it makes up for raw power also its the least defensive style.
Thug: honestly it's okay, breaker and slugger can solo the entire game far easier
Breaker:Just busted even without using most of its move set. It can easily clear groups and most bosses with ease.
Slugger:Honestly besides that combo and the guard break heat move I couldn't tell you what else it could be used for besides blocking enemies with weapons.
Another thing i will say: don't bother with Kiryu's 4th hidden style because by the time you get it, you probably already invested in Brawler so much it outshines the hidden style in every single way except the counter which imo, is the only good thing on it. With Majima is completely the opposite though, his 4th style is extremely busted even you don't upgrade it that much.
Brawler is the middle balanced style. I personally use it on 1-on-1 against boss (especially Kuze), or if the opponent has high health.
Beast is the strongest but slowest. It is arguably the most effective style on massive storyline fight. A good trick is to use Rush to build heat meter, change to beast to perform high damage heat action, change back to Rush and repeat. I do not recommend using Beast on 1-on-1 (except if you have a lot of weapons around) as it is painfully slow.
Thug, treat it like Brawler.
Slugger, this is the stronger version of Thug but with one weakness. You should not use it near walls as Majima would stumble upon hitting walls.
Outside of narrow alley (like in front of Club Sunshine), Slugger should outperform Thug in most cases.
Breaker, this is for handling groups. As it implements area damage, you may want to use it to protect Makoto. Don't use Breaker on 1-on-1 against bosses.
Special tip:
For Mr. Shakedown, you need to prioritize speed to dodge him, attack and quickly evade. For that reason, I suggest Rush as Kiryu and Thug as Majima. If you have heat mode, use Slugger's heat action for quicker damage.
so how does this work for real ?
