Fishing - Is it Me or the game?

So I tried fishing [in Chapter 6, using the rod, my controls are Mouse and keyboard] I have zero luck getting a hook and have yet to catch a thing I been at the pier and basically cleared both spots of fish without hooking a single fish. it seems simple, clearly how ever it isn't.

Just hook when the red part of the lure is pulled down into the water then spam the prompted button ez catches. Also just buy peerless pole and u never miss another fish in your life
