Mahjong/Is Kong a pair or a triplet?
When you naturally pull a quad and get the option to meld it, is it a pair or triplet? I ask this because only 2 tiles are exposed while the other two are face down,

It counts as a triplet, that's why you draw another tile when you create a kong, so your hand can still make the necessary 4 melds and a pair.

just a little tip about Kongs (Kan) you can declare Kong (when drawn) whenever you want during your turn, getting tsumo on the tile Drawn with Kong is actually a Yaku (winning condition)
