Do you recommend this game?
Hello everyone, how you all doing?

So I'm thinking about buying this game, but before I do that, I have to ask, what do you think about this game? Do you recommend it?

This game really is Open World? I mean, it is possible to buy cars, houses, or there's a lot of activities to do in the whole map?

I never played a Yakuza game, so thats why my doubts about this game, I just love open world games, the liberty to do everything I want, buying stuffs, go to bet houses and etc etc etc...

This a little list of Open World games that I just love and you tell me if Yakuza 0 is for me or not:

Sleeping Dogs (I Just love this game, one of my favourites)

Mafia II (Its not a real Open World game, after you finish all missions, you can't drive around the map)

GTA V (All franchise)

Watch Dogs 2 (Just love it, I cant wait to WD3)

One of the criteries that make me love an Open World game, is how much stuffs I'm abble to do in the game and enjoy the entire map and explore everything... So tell me, do you recommend this game? Tell me your opinion =D

Thank you all ^-^

Right, the game is open world, in that you can wander around a large map getting into fights and doing sidequests, as well as goofy minigames like bowling, baseball, slot cars, catfights, and arcade games, but there is no driving. At all.

One of the two protagonists does have an entire system dedicated to buying property and collecting protection money, but you cannont buy personal homes.

The entire game happens more or less within 3 or 4 city blocks, there's really no reason to drive around. If you're impatent though you can catch taxis that take you around the edges of the mapss

It's not as open world as GTA

To enjoy yakuza fully, you need to Enjoy 3 things:
A story with a lot of cutscenes
3D brawling
Fleshed out and meaty side content.

Yes, you have 2 cities to explore, and they are in fact heavily based on real cities, to the point that you can almost use them to get around the real locations. For example, in game Sega arcade (with real playable arcade games, mind) is located in the same place in Kamurocho, as it is in the real life equivalent of Kabukicho.

You'll be able to get into or run from fights, go to various eateries and stores, play some baseball, go bowling, run a Cabaret club, and that isn't including the Approx.100 substories that you can randomly encounter as you explore.

but still, think of it more as a beatemup with 2 cities to explore, than an open world game.

This is absolutely one of the most beautiful and amazing games I have ever played, and it’s only $20. I mean it’s been out since 2015, but this game was probably WAY ahead of its time. This game is one of the most open world games I’ve played. You can play gambling games, like poker, Texas, Omaha, and the Japanese versions of gambling games like koi koi, Shogi, YOU CAN EVEN PLAY COMPETITIVE MAHJONG FFS. You can bet on cat fights, fishing, do hotline phone calls, befriend some people around the city, and that’s not all. There’s side quests with very interesting stories even though they have little to no impact on the game’s actual story, which is basically rare in most games. The story is one of the best, if not THE best in any game I have played in my life, definitely in the top 3, and it only gets better and better as the game progresses. Plus side, you don’t even have to know ANYTHING about the other Yakuza games in order to enjoy this one to its fullest . Switching between both protagonists can be a bit annoying since it is forced upon you after every few chapters, but you’ll forget that completely when you play this certain protagonist more and watch as how they develop and become a better character. And do not worry about being bored in free roam after beating the game. You can finish up any side quests you left unfinished, finish any challenges for completion points which you can use for upgrades, and even finish up any other business left unfinished. There is also a New Game+ where you can play the story over again with your unlocks carrying over, so you’re prepared to get back at those bosses with every move in your arsenal. A few things you CAN’T do in this game are: drive a car willingly(you don’t need to), customize your character fully(but there are alt outfits), and uh... yeah.

Final verdict: 9/10

Great open world, amazing story that keeps creating a giant impact in your heart after every chapter, pretty fun combat system and multiple different options to use your environment to your advantage, the side quests are pretty fun and sometimes worth your time and effort.

My main complaint is how the fighting can be a bit repetitive since you get harassed by gangs on the street pretty often, and you’ll notice yourself using the same combo or combos repeatedly. That, and sometimes the story will cut off certain routes of the city until you finish the mission, or until you get to a point where you can go wherever you want and do anything to prepare for the next mission.

This game deserves your money as much as it deserved the 40 minutes I spent typing this on my phone.

If you want more detailed information, check out Angry Joe’s review on the game. He provides visual presentations so you have a good idea of what to expect and how he explains things, he also expresses certain emotions all throughout to support his points and how they made him feel about the game, and I actually borrowed some of the elements he talked about in his review and put it here. It’s what influenced me to buy the game, so I’m just spreading the good word.

The 2 main maps in the game are literally just a few city blocks each.
There are taxi's for fast travel, if walking distance isnt good enough.

I'd say it's past GTA V level of "do whatever", it's just the sandbox isn't that big. I mean you can go from beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of people in a back alleyway to running a business empire, to karoake and all sorts of other wacky ♥♥♥♥.
I love it.
In terms of yard to "stuff to do", it destroys GTAV easily.

Its really a matter of what you value in immersion though.
