Does Yakuza get better?

Or is Yakuza 0 the peak of the Yakuza series?

Just wondering cause I find Yakuza 0 to be really fun. Funny side stories, intriguing main story, fun mini games, crazy characters, great disco and karaoke soundtrack, and I'm only at chapter 5!

So does Yakuza as a whole get more fun than Yakuza 0 (i.e. Yakuza Kiwami to Yakuza 6)? Or it doesn't (i.e. side contents not as fun as Yakuza 0, but the story is just as good).

The latter. Story is still following kiryus arc (and majimas to some extent) but substories in kiwami can be repetitive, however kiwami 2 is pretty great for substories and matches 0 so its really a hit and miss

hmmm not good, I guess I won't buy the rest of Yakuza games if they aren't as good as 0. Good thing I got Yakuza 0 and Kiwami dirt cheap from Humble several years back. 😂🤣

Peak in terms of side content, story is amazing in all of them, totally worth playing all them atleast for the main story

The story is interesting but the missions are.. not so.
Took me 1 hour to be errand boy for a bunch of homeless dudes, going in circles entering every retail store to find alcohol.
If thats the peak of Yakuza series I much prefer Like a Dragon and Judgment series.

LAD is beyond a doubt the peak of the series. It's also unironically the best Dragon Quest game. It has like 4 times the budget of the previous yakuza games and most of that went into hundreds of hours of content. It's flippin' massive.

Y0, Yk1 and Yk2 are S tier games made by one of the most competent developers in the industry but LAD is on a whole different level. It's only real flaw is that it's missing the adult video stores .

That said I'd suggest playing y0,yk1 and yk2 plus the last 2 dragon quest games to prepare for LAD. You'll appreciate the experience a lot more.

My opinion:

True for 0-6 but in case anyone who hasn't played them is confused I should point:

kiwami 1 and 2 are just remakes of the first two games and SoL (yakuza 6) is an epilogue with stripped down combat (one player character, one fighting style) which is why it's often not included in bundles. I'd agree their all good games but yeah not as sophisticated.

LAD (yakuza 7) is the first in the new series. While I guess taste is subjective I've put over 400 hours in it and still play it. Yakuza 0 is the only other one that comes close.

Judgment is a completely different series that happens to take place in the same area and fictional universe. It's mostly notable for having to be pulled from Japanese shelves and reworked because Pierre Taki was on so much cocaine that even the Tokyo police finally noticed _

Like the user Sherlock mentioned before, any answer you get is going to be subjective because it's based on personal tastes and preferences. From someone who played the entire series, I found it intriguing to keep moving forward. The only black sheep of the series is Y3 which even the developers have admitted wasn't their best go but still stand behind it.

The main meat of the game are the substories because they are more of a commentary on real life so it tends to be more engaging for all players because there a few might hit a personal cord with the users because they may have been in a similar situation.

OP, think about it like Harry Potter. Probably the most loved movie is the 3rd movie, but even with that knowledge, people still watch the movies after it right? You're not suddenly going to find the other games boring just because you think 0 is the best Yakuza game, and even if you did find 0 the best some of the others are pretty close to it's level, and to some it might not even be the best.

Check the release order. This game is culmination of 10 years experiences. the rest is just step by step game lead to 0. Expect less better experiences and don't blame the game because it had janky mechanic, stupid combat, stupid story because they are released before 0.

hell no. the peak of this series is Y7 (or better known as LAD)

Zero used to be peak of yakuza until 2019 when LAD released

Also I never played Kiwami but the original Yakuza 1 on the PS2 was cool and the voice acting was actually pretty good (except when the combat barks like "DIE ♥♥♥♥♥♥" would repeat over and over)

Playing yakuza 3 and sections with Rikiya.
Aniki aniki aniki aniki aniki.
Hes like Haruka but way louder.
Maybe not the best idea to have him repeat the 1 line he got so often.

yeah it was an interesting take to appeal to the west when this first come out.
