Shenmue and Yakuza
I read somewhere that there is a story link between Yakuza and Shenmue. Is this true or is Yakuza more of a spiritual sequel? Do characters from Shenmue show up or get referrenced in Yakuza? I think it is more than just chance that Shenmue 1 & 2 and Yakuza 0 & 1(-ish) of all of Sega's back catalogue are being released close together.

They are both very similar games but they dont have anything to do with each other storywise if thats what you mean.

Yakuza is the spiritual successor of Shenmue and that's it. No shenmue reference, no cameo, nothing.

Not as far as I know, i've played Shenmue 1&2 and Yakuza 1/2/3/4/5. The games aren't even very similar. The only real similarities are that they're both set in Japan and both have a hubworld that you move around in and explore. Shenmue are, for the most part, adventure games with very little actual gameplay. You go around town talking to folks and do some QTE's and sometimes getting in a fight that plays much like a 3D fighter in the vein of Virtua Fighter or Tekken. Yakuza is more action based and plays more like a JRPG with random battles on the street and a gameplay that feels most like an oldschool beat-em-up but modernized.

The only thing it has in common with Sleeping Dogs is that it's set in an Asian country and has a male protagonist that fights people sometimes.
Yeah I'm looking forward to playing Yakuza and Shenmue on Steam
