Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
I was having issues with getting my controller to work, this is despite doing nothing different to the other Yakuza games on steam + WotS 3/4. The right stick wouldn't work, menus would some times auto scroll etc. However looking for a solution to a different problem ended up fixing the issues my controller was having with this game.

Just in case some other poor bastard like me is looking for help but seemingly can't find it. It works for me and I hope it does for you. :praisesun:

Use the search feature theres been about 20 threads on the pro controller in the past 3 days
Most have the same method which is switching to a wired xb1/360 controller for a reliable rate of 100%

I've had zero issues using a Switch Pro Controller just using Steam's Built-in Controller settings with the automated Xbox 360 and Switch Pro Controller presets enabled.

Also works mostly fine for my Switch Hori Pad, but the select button doesn't work in Yakuza 0 and Kiwami for some reason, neither does the Turbo button.

Maybe I don't wanna use a xb1 controller, because I own a switch and not a xbox. Also I had a 360 pad, it was old and worn out, so when I found out I could use the pro controller I retired it.

I'm so very sorry that I made this thread without asking permission first Master, as we all know space on this forum is at a premium and how dare I waste resources like that. What a bastard I am.

I tried that with the controller settings within steam, and for every other game I've tried; the other Yakuza games, Monster Hunter World and Way of the Samurai 3 & 4 there has been zero issues, however Yakuza 0 just wanted to be a pain for me.

So I only made this post just in case someone else, who happened to have a similar issue could find a solution.

Gee, that’s very helpful. Yes I’ll go and buy another controller just for this game. Perfect.

Well, in a certain way, it should work considering that the game is compatible with Steam Controller which allows the use of the Switch Pro Controller.

On Steam, check the settings menu, then "Controller", the "General Controller Settings". This will open Steam's Controller setup which includes an option called "Switch Pro Configuration Support". This, usually, allows any games that uses Steam Overlay to work with the supported controllers with few if any adjustment.

Steam controller support is using Direct Inputs (emulates it) which is the generic yet most used controller plugin.
Yep did that years ago, works for other games, but for some reason it didn’t this time for Yakuza 0

I have the same problem. Had to reassign the map to a different button. Really strange.
It worked in the beginning. Maybe some new patch screwed it up.
Even confirmed on the switch that all buttons work fine.

I fixed it!!!!

This is what I did:

1) Game was running
2) Alt tabbed
3) Right click the game in library
4) Edit Steam Controller Config

The game sees it as a DS4 even though it shows xbox prompts in game. I also had switch with switch layout enabled (which was always on).

I can do a video if you want to see how I did it.
Not the problem I was having, mine was stick drift and auto menu scrolling.

Oh boy, just go buy a different pad! Also turns out using 3rd party software did end up fixing my problem.

Same problem and yet no one replied, I was going to but I wouldn’t want to waste precious forum space and resources.

No solutions
And that’s it, there’s 2 or 3 more threads asking about icon displays being different or reworded version of the above. So all in no, a solution wasn't magically there, apart from use the steam controller in house config software (which as I stated before have done and works for other games) or just buy a new controller.

I hope you step on Lego Lar Dass.

Well you can either whine like a baby about your controller not working well or listen to what is being suggested. I dont own an xb either but i still got a wired controller for pc games because an xb controller is 100% guaranteed to reliably work for any controller compatible game, including yakuza
But, go ahead stick to the switch controller, its your choice. Meanwhile ill stick to my wired xb controller and encounter 0 controller issues for the rest of the games i own and more

I have already enabled the options in the steam controller config, I did this about a year or so ago, other games work with the controller.

However telling me to just buy a xbox pad isn't helpful to me, because I don't want to spend money on a controller for just one game, given that as stated before using the steam controller config to get the pro controller works for other games with zero issues, only Yakuza 0 has had issues using this method.

Also if that’s what you call whining then ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I’d hate to be your friend and ask for advice.

Well i hate to break it to you but there are some games the switch controller won't work with. Wired controllers are your best bet so either switch to kbm or stick with your current switch controller not that hard is it

It is wired. The whole point of my thread was I found a 3rd party software that was able to fix my issue both with getting my pad to work with the E word and by extension Yakuza 0, and thought hey maybe it could help someone else. What a bastard I am, I should be taken out back and shot for it.

Also proof of it being wired;

Snark aside, I do think that getting a 360 pad is a good idea for PC gaming in general. Mine's still kicking 6 years later and I use it as a backup in case I do have controller issues. I typically don't have to worry about it with Steam games, but every now and then things do get buggy. I can't recommend Xbox One controllers because I haven't owned one before.

As a side note it's also good to have an Xbox controller on hand because Nintendo gave up analog triggers with pressure sensitivity, which sucks, especially if you play games with driving.

I'd also ask if you tried manually setting the buttons in steam controller settings before using third party software. There's no good reason you should have to stop using Steam's software to use a controller with the game, and I would consider troubleshooting if something is wrong with your Steam install or drivers, regardless if it works for other games.

Ok, unlike Lar Dass I'll be civil towards you and zero snark.

I do agree with using a xbox controller if you don't have any sort of pad and looking to buy one, I loved my 360 and used it right up until it started to get really wonky, then used it for a few more months until I couldn't take it anymore. Then I saw a post for some other game talking about the pro controller and well I already have a switch so I thought fantastic, that saves me having to go out and buy a new pad, I'll just use that.

And here's the thing, Yakuza 0 is the only game I own that has given me this kind of problems, all the other games within steam I've used a pad for have had zero issues, I've brought that up a few times and it seems to be glossed over each time, maybe because it's in the middle of my massive text block and you two are speed reading it, I don't know.

As for setting up the buttons, that was only part of the problem, the other one was auto menu scrolling, as if I was holding down the stick when I wasn't, and before you say do a pad reset, did that no difference, loaded up a different game, zero issues, back to Yakuza 0 all the issues are back again.

Same with the E word, tried the snes and 3ds no problems, tried the ps3 had some really weird problems, went looking for a solution, found one that worked perfectly and thought, well if this fixed that E word, then maybe I might get lucky with Yakuza 0 and it finally works.

I also did a search on this forum for a in house solution, it's always the same 3 things, buy a xbox controller, use the steam config or I don't know. The drivers are also fine, it says there's no problems found so I don't know what more I can do, I've done the steam config, works perfect for other games, checked the drivers, unless windows is lying, seems to be fine, I'm using the pad with the usb cable.

However, your point about analog triggers with pressure sensitivity is very interesting and I can fully see why that would be an issue for a lot of people. However, I suck at driving games so not so much for me. And now that I think about it, I can't really remember the last game I played where that would be an issue for me. But again, I can see why someone would want that, it's the same with the d pad and L/R triggers, the pro controller is a bit loose on the triggers and the d pad's a bit stiff. Maybe I've gotten used to it.
