Xbox Controllers (360 & One) unusable.
The game recognizes them, but the buttons are all f'ed up. The right analogue sticks aren't detected at all, start and back are swapped with RS and LS, camera up/down are mapped to the triggers, etc. The only buttons that seem to work are the face buttons, by some miracle.

I can't remap the buttons in-game because as I said, the right stick isn't detected at all.

I've tried launching the game in Big Picture mode and out, tried forcing the controller settings on, tried turning the overlay off, calibrated the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ controllers...

I don't know what else to try.

How is it possible to mess up something as simple as a gamepad configuration?

My xbox one controller works fine. The problem you describe, reminds me how some games saw my old logitech controller when i used wrong mode for it, possibly game sees your controller as Dinput, while you need Xinput.

Welp, after lots of swearing and pulling of hair, decided to just Frankenstein my controls using the re-mapping functions of big-picture mode. Had to change the right analogue to d-pad inputs and remap half the controls to keyboard buttons, but at least I can rotate the camera now, even if it's jerky as hell, and can switch combat styles without reaching over to the keyboard.

Clunky way to play, but at least I can. Was afraid I was going to have to give this game a miss.

Its a problem of your part because my two One controllers works perflectly if i force them in big picture mode. Update the drivers and them trought usb and the Xbox companion app.
As you are using an Xbox controller, there is no real need to set up anything in steam since pretty much all PC games utilise the Xinput API by default (Xbox 360/one controllers).

you would be better off turning off steam's controller settings, or disabling for just this game (right click in library, select properties, then set steam input per game setting to "forced off")

What you are seeing is a conflict between the official driver and steam's controller settings

I've tried both of these suggestions, and variations thereof. My controllers work perfectly in every other game, no conflicts. It's only Yakuza 0 that this stuff is happening with.

Personally I hate using Steam in Big Picture mode, and this is only the second game that I've been forced to use it with (the other being A Hat In Time, but magically those controller issues fixed themselves and I can run it normally now.)
