Where's the first save point?
It was already confusing enough you apparently save at phone booths, but where the ♥♥♥♥ are they? While following the other dude into the cafe (I forgot his name already because I'm playing in Japanese), I did see a phone booth, but I couldn't do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with it.

Your first chance to save is available when all the intro cutscenes are over and you are placed in control of Kiryu. At the video below go to 9:04, look over at the left side and you'll see the S.

The first time you are sent to a phone is much later in the game, after the Ramen shop and you have to go call Dojima HQ. But the thing about that is when you have the "contact Dojima HQ" objective then the phones normal use is overridden. When you use the phone it triggers a cutscene where you talk to Dojima HQ. Once that is finish you are back in control of Kiryu. You will only know that phones are for saving if you manually interact with the phone a second time. I've actually suggested that they should put a simple popup notice at the very start (at 9:04 in the video below) that tells you that the phones like the one nearby is for saving. This subject comes up way too often so i think it might help out people who are new to this style of game saving.

I was further than 10 minutes in. It wasn't a video anymore and I did 2 tutorial fights and some more. I hadn't seen ♥♥♥♥. If the game sucks that much at pointing out I need to use phone save points in an era where we're used to autosaves (note, I didn't assume it would autosave), it's doing something wrong. Which is odd because they do explain the combat basics. But hey thanks for info I'll try the map early on next time.

Guys, The first save point is literally on the left as soon as you're able to have control. This is before the tutorial fights.

10 minutes? Try an hour. I was playing for almost an hour and couldn't find anywhere to save the game.

As another use has pointed out, a YouTube playthrough shows that saving is available at the 9minute mark of the video. If you skip the intro CG you can save within minutes of starting the game.

CG --> Kiryu standing in the streets --> Left side of street is a pay phone with a gigantic S marked on it --> Save

I ended up finding that one after I posted my comment and restarting but in all honesty it's sort of a pointless save point since there's still a couple of more fight tutorials, a karaoke mini-game and a whole bunch of cut scenes between it and the next save point. If a game is going to use manual save points, which I don't really like but I also don't hate, then at the very least a "Save and Exit" command would be nice too.

Then what you're talking about is the pacing of the saves, which is another matter all together. OP is saying that he couldn't find out how to locate the save points.
Yeah but the game doesn't even say there's a save point at the spot near the beginning. And last night when I decided to restart I tried running back to the save point so I could go to bed but the game was forcing me to follow the long haired guy with the bad suit. And this guy walks like he's on a date. I felt like the game was holding me hostage lol. I don't like clingy games.

Saving is so annoying in this game
Slowsilver Feb 9, 2023 @ 11:28am
At least big fights usually have the "try again?" option and there are phones all over the cities. Not so bad once you get used to it. Too bad first save spot is so far and in game info about how to save even further.

So the big bold "S" on the minimap didn't immediately make you think "that might be a save point"?
