is there a mod that adds autosaves?
i just lost like 5 hours of progress because the game crashed

No, just gotta learn to save manually. How did you go 5 hours without doing it once?

Save points are always close by and you're passing them very frequently, really no reason why you're not taking the 7 seconds it takes to manually save.
