How are you supposed to know that circle > triangle?

I get that X is the worst, but how the flying ♥♥♥♥ am I supposed to know that circle is superior to triangle? Is this some common japanese thing?

You would have figured that out if you have seen the double circle. It really isn't that easy though.

I do agree that it would have been better explained.

But since it wasnt i just used a "does this make sense" approach. Two circles are better than one so that means that double circle must be higher than a single one. But to me it didnt make sense that double circle would be in the #2 or #3 spot which would have put the single circle in #3 or #4 respectively. So i figured double circle would go into 1, single into 2 which left triangle and X. Between those two X seemed like the more logical choice to put in the last place since its usually used as a symbol for stop, do not cross, no, etc. Triangle was the oddball with nothing i could really associate its ranking with which is why i focused on the other symbols first and the last one is where triangle fit in.

It also helped that i had the rock band down the street from Kiryu's office was one of the first substories i completed, even before i unlocked the real estate royale. So it kinda made sense that the guitarist's best trait would be the one in entertainment.

I thought Double Circle better than Triangle that was better than Cross. And I expected to encounter Double Triangle sometimes later. Thanks for the topic.

Ok so it's kind of a strange japanese thing but, O is good, X is bad, hence why on the Playstation accept is on O while back is on X. You could kind of...make an educated guess that if O is good, then double O is like DOUBLE GOOD. If you could get that sort of explanation.

Almost no one had problem with circle and cross, everyone had a problem with meaning of triangle.

I don't know the history behind it, but Yakuza isn't the first series to use X-triangle-circle in a hierarchy. The others I can think of all started on Playstation or Dreamcast, so I'm guessing it's either a Playstation convention or a Japanese one.
