I usually try to riichi when possible. If you win by riichi, you get another Dora tile indicator.
Concealed Kan (Kan from your own draw) is an option but risky (if you lose).
All Simples (Tanyao) - No 1, 9, Winds, or Dragons
The rest are not that easy

That's pretty situational, exposed hand with enough Han for Haneman.
Can be All Triplets (Toitoi) with Dora, Round / Seat Wind, and/or Dragons.
Half-flush / Flush (One type of tile with or without wind / dragon tiles) if possible.
Riichi gives 1 han
Tsumo with a closed hand gives 1 han
Triplets of dragon tiles (open or closed) gives 1 han
Seat or round wind triplet gives 1 han
A wind that is both seat AND round wind gives 2 han instead
Every single dora tile in your hand gives 1 han
Sometimes there's just random crap that gives han
Ron / Tsumo off the last draw of the game gives 1 han
Tsumo off the dead wall when forming a kong gives 1 han
Ron off a tile used to upgrade a triplet into a quad gives 1 han
Winning in the turn you declared riichi gives 1 han
So generally, keep your hand closed, chase after high value yaku and dora tiles, and pray to the mahjong gods for good luck.
Now to throw yourself into the game and master it. Watch this:
