Report a translation problem
There was autosave on PS4, for some reason it was removed from the PC version.
Part of an early mission is even going to a phone booth and calling Nishiki. But even then the game fails to mention that.
On the next day I replayed everything and explicitly watched for any hints on that save game mechanic. There are none.
Even after reading about the savegame mechanic, that 'S' didn't stand out to me, it's just not clear enough and therefore bad UX design.
An S can stand for all kinds of things, how am I supposed to know it refers to 'save'?
It should be communicated much more clearly, e.g. by
* writing 'Save game' instead of 'S'
* making the font stand out more so it can't be mistaken for something else
* and for gods sake, if you don't have an autosave system in your game, at least notify/remind the player via the HUD and additionally through an in-game character like Nishiki (ideally with an in-world explanation) to save the game.
Other games are doing these things and are always ensuring that your progress is saved (either manually or automatically), because everyone knows savegames are one of the most important features of any video game!
You go over to it and examine it, and see if its interactable...
