That crossword sidequest

Feels like the localization team fell on there face with that one, didn't it? "Bag Phone" somehow isn't 8 letters? The crossword on the table is done in kanji. Easily coulda just made it a short japanese lesson for us dirty English speakers rather than force us to suspend our disbelief of three Japanese people doing crosswords in English down to the proposal message.

I'm not sure what you're upset about. 'shoulder' is 8 letters and it's the right answer

Ignoring the rest of the post- the dialog itself even calls it a bag phone and the game introduces it as "bag phone" by the dude who owns it and that's all it's ever referred to as up until the sidequest. Majima even says "Bag phone won't work the answer's 8 letters" ???

Actually if you Google both shoulder and bag phone.

That dude actually owns a shoulder phone, but he called it a bag phone.

I didn't trigger the bag phone guy substory til after the crossword one, I could see that if you did his first it might be confusing.

Super late but I just stumbled across this thread and can't keep my mouth shut.

It actually isn't wrong, because the crossword is looking for an answer in the form of "[8 letter blank] phone"

So unless you want to call it a "[bag phone] phone", it doesn't work. You'll notice that "shoulder phone" doesn't have 8 letters, "shoulder" does.
