Changing mini-game input for keyboard
Just started. No controller. Noticed that trying to do karaoke with the default I, J, K, L keys is a farce so went to the input.ini.

There are options for minigame input mapping that do not appear in the game remapping menu. However you need to know or look up java keyboard codes to know how to map the correct the key. This is all fine and good and I CAN actually successfully remap the minigame controls to my arrow keys and it works...

BUT

Even though all reference to the original I, J, K, L keys is gone from the .ini and the menu, the minigame still displays I, J, K, L as the prompts.

Anyone know what I can do to make the prompts match the remapped input?

Cheers

Would like to know this as well.

It would be really great to be able to rebind those controls (and show the correct prompts in game).

PLEASE let us rebind the minigame controls on keyboard!

so the only way to fix this is to jury rig a solution by modifying the game input.ini and the graphic files.

I've done so and now I'm a karaoke pro. Stupid Sega. jkli was a terrible decision, and even worse not letting players modify those settings WITHIN the keybind screen.

If you want, I am more than happy to show you my input.ini edits and to give you my modified .PAR file that includes the (very rough but perfectly usable) GUI updates.

That's awesome, I didn't even consider looking for the graphic files to mod the visual prompts (can't believe they aren't dynamically generated!). Nice work. In the end my frustration caused me to go out and buy a gamepad specifically for this game (after all 'Real Yakuza' use a gamepad apparently :D) .

Appreciate the update though, I'm certain it will help somebody out who is still stuck flailing through mini-games with IJKL. Cheers!

Well the game was originally on the PlayStation, of course it's gonna be intended to be played with a controller.

But anyway, you don't have to follow Chef Rude and use the cruddy GUI edits when you can just download the beta Patch 3 that changes the karaoke's controls to arrow keys that comes with the official GUI button prompts.

The .ini file can be remap I believe I have done it for other games you just need to find the keybinds for the mini game

Well it should be able to be remap not going to say for sure it can be

Yep apparently I spent several days scouring files only to hear that Sega's update beta solves this issue...
I refuse to buy a controller for ONE game, and did not want to now down to a Dev with poor foresight.

I'll keep my shoddy graphical edits until the beta goes public, and that should replace my edits anyway.

In the meantime, I'm able to do mini games without being annoyed.

You do you, dude. No worries.

Yep the initial has controller and keyboard settings that you can edit using JavaScript key input designations (37-40, I think?)

Hey, I know it has been two years , but do you happen to have those modified files.
I'm stuck on disco dancing minigame and the game wont let me change from IJKL to arrow keys.
Zawarudo May 6, 2021 @ 4:03pm
Eh... the karaoke inputs are in the arrow keys... what are you guys talking about? 0.o It should be obvious...

I'm not sure about the karaoke input being the arrow keys. I haven't checked it yet.
But i read about it in some other discussions that the devs have changed the bindings from IJKL to arrow keys in beta Patch 3 branch.

However, for the disco minigame it's still IJKL. :/
Yayco Nov 29, 2022 @ 1:26pm
I'm bumping this cus just like the last person said, the disco minigame uses ijkl and even if you change it in input.ini, the minigame still shows ijkl. I tried modifying some text textures but it just made me find out the texures during the minigame are dedicated for it and idk where to find them.
Chef Rude Nov 30, 2022 @ 5:16pm
so the modding guide I used was something like this., https://www.reddit.com/r/yakuzagames/comments/94ch81/pc_mod_modding_guide/
Theres also another modding tutorial on the steam communities foruma

You need to unpack the correct .par file, that took me a while to open each and find the right one. (likely want to edit all the minigame ones with the same idea)
Someone said the controller sprites are here

SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Yakuza 0\media\data\2dpar\sprite_c.par

Use a photo editor or graphic program to replace the texture with whatever you want that makes sense.
Then repack the stuff and throw it back into the game. (backup the original is a good idea)

I dont remember how to edit the ini but thats a more common tutorial to find.

Hope that helps.

It isnt, it was the stupid IJKL keys. I modified the .ini to make it the arrows.
Rayn Apr 7 @ 5:16pm
I know it's been a while now, but maybe someone will find this useful. I modified the .par file with sprites for disco minigame to change the IJKL to arrows. Made them in paint, don't judge.
Location: SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Yakuza 0\media\data\fontpar
Modified file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Vun07cm5qSD8U87zJh80DnB5hhgycvPw/view?usp=drive_link

Don't forget to create backup file just in case.

I also tried to change inputs for disco minigame to arrows but failed. Experimenting with input.ini didn't do anything. I learned that somehow in disco you can hit right with E and down with Q, but didn't find any clue inside input.ini why is it work like that. Guess they just hardcoded this mess of a minigame like that. Or inputs for it is placed somewhere else.
