any dubs at all are a disgrace itself, they should not dub anything asia related AT ALL.

it doesn't sound authentic, they over reacting in most cases, their accent is total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and how they speak is also completely wrong. its just garbage

Hey good job necro. But yes it will, maybe not for you. But if you actually read the youtube example in page 1. It's an example of dubbing ruining the experience. I can say that I understand the language, but they got really terrible dub. And what is this about "most people prefer sub because they cant actually understand what is being said so they dont know if the dub is good or bad." ? As seen in this thread, that most people don't like the dubbing.

Plus, dubbing usually make it lose the japanese meaning. And Yakuza are japanese, not english men.

Stuff like in the links below is why i dont like dubs. If its an option for those that like it thats fine. Of course with that you'll have people bickering over extra costs and extra work. But i'm worried that a bad dub might just give them a poor impression of the game. There's a chance you might get Nier Automata or Metal Gear Solid quality translations...but there's also a chance you'll end up with Shenmue quality dubs.

Besides...24 hour cinderella and judgement just wouldnt be right in any other language hehe. Or any of the cutscenes in game where they finish off the scene/sentence with a gaping mouth and A REALLY FORCEFUL YELL!!!! well, maybe in German/Deutsch those cutscenes would work because i think their whole language is made up of yells anyways.

Guess what? The original acting is also overreacting. Japanese voice acting is extremely melodramatic in style. To the point many "bad" dubs are actually the ones accurate to the source material.

It's funny how many folks seem to think the over the top ridiculous acting somehow makes them superior.

That being said, Yakuza is definitely one series that shouldn't be dubbed. There's a lot of motion capture involved and all the characters are modelled after their VAs (many of which are minor TV/movie actors in Japan known for doing crime dramas.)

Errr, I don't think anyone is suggesting dubbing would be the only option. I hope. You would pick one or the other, much like many movies let you do.

I usually prefer dubs, but I don’t know if it’s because I’m used to the Japanese VA’s but I actually think the Y1 dub is terrible. I don’t care if it is Mark Hamill but Hidenari Ugaki’s version fits Majima so much better. Hamill sounds like a typical, evil thug, whereas Ugaki gives him the little extra craziness and comic relief. Also English people using Japanese honorifics sounds stupid af

I bought a PS4 to play Kiwami1/2, I’m still need to finish 2 and I’ll make a start of Fist if the North Star, the dub for that game sounds decent
