No katana heat move?
Title. IS there not a special heat move on the katana?

No. It's a shame really.

If it's any consolation, most katanas have special abilities on them, like shooting projectiles and blowing away enemies. Majima can use them without breaking with the Calming Towel too. The best katana can be used basically as a golden gun in sword form. It does more damage than the golden gun while shooting projectiles.

Which reminds me...The PC version has a visual bug where weapon effects are not correctly shown. I can't see the white sword beam coming out of the katanas that has those abilities. Also, as other people have said, Majima's dagger is lacking the glow and ghosting effect.

Seems strange they'd add so many heat moves for the most obscure picked off the ground weapons but not the freaking katana.

Well ... in continuity, Kiryu learns how to use Katanas in Kiwami & 1.
As for Majima, he should have one.

It's really weird that they gave majima 2 heat moves for each weapon but nothing for the katana. Maybe they wanted to and just ran out of mocap money?

i know responding to this years later is stupid but they released ishin before y0 so they could have just used the basic sword heat action from there and ported it in considering half the weapon heat actions are from y5 and y4/y3

Sounds like you are as big a fan of the franchise as I have become since I posted this... and yeah, they could have, but I'm sure you noticed they also seem to do minor reworks to fundamental combat mechanics in pretty much every yakuza game.

I don't know quite why, but they seem to be pretty decided to change for change's sake. One of my less favorite changes from game to game is the grappling changes, where in some games you can throw people effectively and in others you can't.

This one should be marked as the answer.

Kiryu doesn't learn how to use a sword until the events of Yakuza 1/Kiwami 1.
