Saves a lot of pain, I don't really know what it is about it, but I hate it too. Karaoke rythm is easy, but it's incredibly hard to get a hang of this system.
It'll be frustrating but you'll get the hang of it. That's the problem with these Yakuza games though, the mini games are 10x harder than the game itself. (Well at least to me)
That might be it. Also, in good rythm games like the Persona Dancing games, you can potentially hide the notes if you know the rythm and the song well enough, but in this mini game it feels like there is no real rythm behind it at all. I feel no connection between the buttom prompts and the music at all. The karaoke game tries and it works well enough.

But I think you need alot of Steps, why? 6.6k, low combo and still 3star with same 200+steps

Ironically, I got 3star only once at Hard against Ogita, but I still lost by 14points lol .. Still manage to win the battle but only with 2Star @6.9k ..
