Is this censored?
I'm asking for a friend...

No.

A couple of music tracks were replaced in the Western release due to licensing issues (it is speculated that it may be possible to mod them back in to the PC version depending on how tightly the DRM implementation locks down anything apart from the executables).

Other than that there are no reports of cut or censored content between the Japanese and Western Playstation releases and no reason to cut anything betweeen Playstation and PC release.

It's really not their fault tho if they have to censor it. Blame the Western media where gratuitous violence is A ok while anything with boobs is frowned upon unless you're CD Project Red and making The Witcher.

CD Project will always have my respect due to the fact their upcoming game will have full nudity.
Because instead being there for kink or whatever it's part of and essential for the story.
Can't wait!!!

Girls in bikinis is the most nudity you will get. if you realy wanna dig deeper you can look up the actresses on Google ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
When it comes to gore, there is only a bit of blood.

Sega learnt their lesson from Yakuza 3. They won't do that ever again.

5 had a LOT of music changes unfortunately. I was pretty bummed when comparing the two versions.

Yeah its unfortunate, But not something SEGA can control. Music liscensing can be a real kicker.
Remember Citadel Jul 13, 2018 @ 5:11am
They could throw a lot of money at it. If they hadn't handled the series so poorly in the west, that might have even been justifiable with a larger fanbase. But they blew so much money on a largely terrible dub for the first game and then did zero advertising for the second game, it's a small wonder the series even recovered from that.

Personally, I only really got into it thanks to the early PS3 days of "no games" making me watch RGG3 videos. It was then that I checked out the PS2 games, which had completely went unnoticed by me up until that point. Y2 with its subtitles and original audio approach was so much better from my perspective and cost effective from a publisher perspective that I don't know what the hell they were thinking on the first game. I guess they thought they could mangle it into some sort of GTA-like success?

ESPECIALLY in Japan. Their record companies have some crazy power to the point even typical videogame composers can place a lot of restrictions on their music.

Like how you can't stream any of the dragon quest games in pause due to the music license.

I'm sure the softcore videos and the cards you find will be the first thing to be modded in this game to make them extra spicy for all our thirsty needs.

Except from already stated, the fist masters speciality is fisting, that had to translated differently, pretty funny as its an 18+ rated adult game!

Gods I thought that had been conclusively debunked.

In the English translation, Kamoji, the "Rush" trainer is introduced by Bacchus (who is not a native Japanese speaker & thus gets idioms & colloquial uses wrong) as "a whaddayacall . . . a fisting artist!" which Kamoji quickly corrects to "punchout artist." This is indeed not a particularly literal translation of the original dialogue, which (per the Legends of Localization page linked in that thread) was a *different* garbling of the trainer's self-description into a sexual reference which would. not. have. worked. in English.

[Minor edits for clarity]
