I like the different fighting styles of Y0/K1 which are very fun and offers lots of different strategies, I can’t think of many criticisms about them
Y6/K2 and it’s Dragon Engine is a nice change, it feels less arcady and punches feel like they hit much harder. The added physics feel fun throwing enemies a mile away. It’s not as quick and snappy as previous titles
Judgement utilities the Dragon Engine and has 2 combat styles, I personally didn’t like how they felt. Too big of a delay between rush combos. They are pretty powerful and the EX actions (Heat moves) are a spectacle. Unfortunately Yagami is a little ♥♥♥♥♥ and doesn’t take hits very well, so you’ll get interrupted a lot
There’s also Fist of the North Star, not much to say really, it’s a mix of the elegance of Y0/K1 and the simplicity and speed of Y3/4/5. Also who doesn’t like to make people explode by tapping them? Plus “atatatat atatatatat atatatatatah!”
Overall I feel like Y0/K1 has the best combat system. Although my favourite game of the series so far has been Kiwami 2, mostly because I spent so long playing the Caberet and Majima Construction, the Dragon Engine was a great change of pace and there’s so much content
Kiwami 1.
Multiple styles are back with tiger and crane, but crane gets like zero upgrades.
There is also mortal damage, which really sucks in the late-game.
I do like its change to seamless and immediately transition into combat, as it took a few times to remember there is no second or two pause and get decked.
I will say the combat in Judgment does a very good job of making Yagami feel like his own character, and not like the tank Kiryu is.
