Even with a separate screen and setting the AI to beginner, that old man still beat my high-difficulty shogi AI handily
the AI in the yakuza 0 is very weak compared to both real shogi players and shogi engines, I don't know what shogi AI or engine you used to play for you but it was probably beginner level
"I'm going to play like a beginner too" The hell you are. I, ME, I'm playing like a beginner. And that means making silly mistakes and forgetting what specific units do.
YOU, you cheating lying old bastard are not playing like a beginner. Becase you make NO mistakes and never, even once fail to immediately bash me if I make one.
And this is because shogi in Yakuza 0 falls into the same trap as all the other minigames I've seen so far in the game. They're stupidly difficult and often unclear. Most importantly they miss the point of minigames. Minigames are supposed to be fun! Fun first and difficult second if at all.
If a game fails at that this badly, then it's no suprise people won't feel the need to play "fair" with it. You get the kind of loyalty you're earned from players.
This meant a full hour of playing the game upside down and double checking every symbol against other pieces on the board I thought but wasn't sure were the same but in the end it did work.
If anyone wants to go the simulator route, I'd suggest using a mobile phone app rather than a browser one. The reason being that you can flip your phone and have "your" moves on the phone, which you'll actually be using the represent Yakuza's AI and be an exact copy of the game's game rather than a mirror image. This helps to avoid confusion.
And I suppose that's about all I have to say about this.
Oh, one more thing. My first win was at the highest difficulty and I got some Leeching Gloves for it. They don't seem to do what they're meant to (leach Heat) but it's worth mentioning them for completionism's sake.
i guess i can see where you’d get that idea, considering that support for the shogi minigames is so sparse this is still one of the google first results for Yakuza 0 Shogi Challenges. it’s actually insane to me how little they’re discussed online
