Don't have much to offer...
I've found that if I "sprint" while on the surface of the water, I seem to swim a LOT faster than I do if I submerge myself.
Also, this is probably a Captain Obvious moment, but: if you want to take a bit of a shortcut from the boat dock to your starting base, you can combine that trick with going up the back way - swim across the narrow channel from the side of that little town => up the hill => along the cliffs => there's an opening into one of the enclosures you can cut through (bonus: there are often loot-drops in the enclosure, such as rope / arrows / etc., that have respawned in the meantime), or, you can simply continue along the base of the cliff to your front gate.
I haven't encountered a monster up there yet in my game - no guarantees they won't wander up there eventually, but, for now it makes for a MUCH faster trip to store my precious mats.
I'll have to try out the swimming thing, thanks!
Update :: There is another coin press in Corpse Harbor inside a safe in a boarded up house. There's also another toolset in there as well ;3
Ignore the water meter when it becomes full and treat them like stamina pots.
As soon as you can, build a water pump up near your storage so you have one up where you live and another near the boat. You'll never have to worry about walking slow again.
____
First 30 minutes of the game
-Pick up stuff around the base
-Enter the lab
-Write down the ingredients for each potion thing on a card and keep it in front of you. Work on only one thing at a time.
Hopefully you've picked up enough stuff. Beeline to Corpse Harbor, pick up the two tool sets and make the following from the free workbench:
-Bone Breaker,
-Shaver
-Gold Digger to have the much needed tools in the first few minutes of the game.
-Waterpump
-Workbench
-As many crates as you can with the left overs.
Now go hack some boards off a nearby building and grab that coin press out of the safe!
Don't forget to climb up that sign for the tools2.
Haul everything back to base and get yourself set up for asorting system. Something like this maybe:

Your next stop should be kitsune den to work on getting a full stack of Tranq Arrows.
-IGNORE IRISES
You have a very limited inventory so it's important you grab the good stuff. Irises and other flowers are used for dyes much later in the game when you have a ton of other workshops built. Save your space for useful things like mushrooms. All the mushrooms.
For making Taming Potion? Find it in the water aroung the shore. Yellow in color with reddish top (I think). Alone on bottom like Seaweed is. Hope this helps.
Take screenshots with 'P'.
You'll find them in My Documents/Animallica/Screens
This will take off the HUD automatically.
I found the coin press in corpse harbor - Oddly enough, while you can buy stuff there you cant seem to sell stuff.
You can also use a Maul to break chains on the fence inside one of the buildings to get at the stuff inside, as well as the animals inside the pens.
What exactly does a Shaver do? Gold Digger = T2 pickaxe....
I found a Fireaxe in Corpse Harbor that does 11 dmg, matches the dmg of the Apocolypse sword you can craft.
Nice tip.
Shaver= axe for trees.
