Just go through the "Determining Internal IP" and "Generic Router Setup" sections.
You also don't need to use the dedicated server option - when you launch the game, go to options and make sure you select Internet instead of LAN. Now when you start a game, it will automatically be listed as a server and your friends can connect.
If you don't setup port forwarding, your friends will still be able to see your server, but it will have a ping of 9999 and they will not be able to connect.
Hm, there is option for lan? could that technically be easier via stuff like radmin vpn or hamachi than doing the router thing?
