Can't light torch on Level 7

I'm on level 7 - the snowy mountain. I have made it to the cave twice. When I chirp at the torch nothing happens. I am using a 5 year old lap top, and using the space button for chirping. The second time I tried it, was after shutting the game down completely and opening it the next day. Both times, I met a companion at some point, but they were much fast than I am and moved on before I made it to the cave.

Any hints on what I should do?

I have looked at a playthrough wiki for this issue but tried not too learn too much past the point I am at now.

Also, I am not very coordinated so I anticipate falling off the bridge at least once, likely a few times more than that. And will have to restart the level. When that inevitably happens, what steps do I need to take to restart the level properly. For example, the wiki said you can only light the torch once.

If you want to light up the torch, you should light up all tombstone nearby in the cave. (Don't know if you miss this part.) By the way, lighting up the torch isn't necessary for passing the level unless you're aiming for the History achievement.

And if you want to restart the level "totally", press "ESC" and choose "Resume" for starting a new round of the level.

None of the tombstones light up either whether I walk near them or when I chirp at them. I'm not sure how I would cross the gap in the bridges, if my scarf is dead and I can't jump. I hit escape and quit to desktop an it put me at the bottom of the hill in between my two attempts.

It could be that on both occasions when your companion zoomed ahead of you in the snow, that they activated the torch themselves, then moved on immediately, leaving you to catch up. By the time you reached the torch, the light would have gone out and it would be inactive, as technically you would still be connected to that player ahead of you.

I think you'll find if you restart the level and don't meet up with anyone at all, that you should reach the torch and light it without any problems.

As for the ribbon bridge, stand on the edge of the bridge and chirp as loudly as you can at the ribbon. It should warm up slightly, and drop down towards you. Keep chirping until it's stopped moving. Then you should be able to jump downwards straight onto it.

I tried once with red robe just now without lighting up the torch. Stand at the edge of the bridge, and then do a long chirp to put down that red ribbon road. It was OK to pass the bridge with dead scarf.

If you still can't pass the bridge, there might be something wrong with your game that I can't help... Maybe you could post a video of your playthrough here, someone might help by then.
