Play offline?
Can I? I hate other people and just want to play games alone. I know I could on PS4 back when I played it there, but it doesn't look like I can now. Right?

I can't just unplug the ethernet because I need it for steamlink to my TV. I don't want to run an annoying HDMI-cable through my apt.

You can block the game in your firewall. You will also gain a huge performance boost since the online mode is slowing the game down a lot

Why didn't I think of that? :-O Thanks for the help!

Btw, I have perfect FPS (60+) with everything maxed and 8xmsaa and 1440p. I have no idea why everyone else has poor performance. Maybe it's CPU bound? I have an i7 9700k at 4,8GHz so that could be why? I dunno. Anyway, again, thanks! :-)

It is CPU bound and by a lot, or so it seems. Glad to help :)

You are free to do whatever you want with the game of course. But if you play the game entirely alone I dont think you are getting the experience out of that was intended. For me the game seems to only be complete with that aspect in there.
I will never forgot the amazing moments I had because of the other travellers I met during my Journey.

Running Steam in Offline Mode (Steam -> Go offline...) worked for me. I just did that to complete some achievements and jump back to Chapter Select without abandoning another player who was hoping for a proper companion. Didn't encounter any other people and Steam still properly registered the achievements, so maybe try that?

edit: I just realized that I have no idea whether steamlink requires your client to be online, so that might not work for you after all in your particular case.

I understand that. It's just that I don't want to play together with other people. I don't even want to with my friends. I'm that kind of person, you know? I just want to spend my time alone because other people take up so much of my daily life that games are an escape for me. The moment I saw someone in game it bothered me so much I felt ill and just quit. But my experience with it was a lot better after blocking it through the firewall.

Not every person like online games or want to play together with others, even if there's no way of communicating. Like seriously, I played WoW alone from level 1 to 120. I did some raids when I had to but I never talked to anyone. I just don't like other people, even if they're a mute.

Yeah but doing so will block me entirely from using my steamlink like you said :-P Thanks anyway!

curious if you ended up playing through offline and if you enjoyed it? I'm contemplating doing the same. I turned it off as soon as I realized it was co-op by default.
The game says "Play alone or in the company of a fellow traveler".

So how does the game intend one to play alone?

I just started and all of the sudden the level is being passed while i'm looking around... someone else is just taking over my experience of the game : /

That's nut. One of reason I don't play ESO.

Works perfectly fine if you simply disconnect from the interwebs before you get to the stage where you're matched with other players. I.e. the broken bridge area.
