The worst possible autosave
(As in, individual place to save, not a criticism of the autosave system)

As you might know, this version of the game autosaves on every zone change / fadeout.

Unfortunately, if you somehow managed to zone change with two characters dead and the third on fire with 1 HP, you now have an autosave that Game Overs instantly when you load it (which is hilarious.)

RIP 10~15 minutes of my time

To be fair, the original didn't have an auto save. You developed the old fashioned habit of saving each time you are able to by visiting an inn or talking to the cat merchant.

However I agree the scenario you mentioned sucks a lot and they should probably have auto saved upon entering any major area instead.

Definitely recommend saving manually whenever you are able to though.

Oh don't worry, I don't rely on the autosave at all - I even want back and did a hard save in between the two Light Tower bosses just in case.

This particular incident happened in the middle of a dungeon away from any Inns or Neko points. =p

Wait there is an auto save function? Because I desperately need that, i just spent 2 hours in the mana fortres and then the game crashed again, lost all progress and loot.

The remake performs an autosave every time you zone change. I believe it has a separate slot for your first and second proper save files. It's on the bottom of the Load menu.

Yeah it's enabled by default. You can check the save data screen it's the one on the bottom highlighted in green.

Sometimes it saves your bacon, though. I was down to like 3 MP on the Sprite just before getting to Wall Face. I had PLANNED to level 'em up before going into the final area but forgot that you can't go back into the temple to fight mobs if you go to far. Died pretty fast to a wall crush/instant death. Autosave kept my progress minus a few rooms though so I was about to grind a bit more. Wound up beating Wall Face in 3 spells. Almost feels faster than I remember the SNES version being. All of the bosses have felt that way.

All damage numbers, HP, defense, etc. are identical to SNES.

However, the battles are just plain faster. Recovery from attacks (receiving and dealing) are faster so you deal damage faster and kill the boss faster, which is why they seem so easy now. That and you no longer get stunlocked from enemy attacks.

That's when you download a trainer, give yourself infinite HP and walk the ♥♥♥♥ out of there.
