Pure Land; oh my God.
So I just made it to Pure Land. Until now, I've had no problem dealing with anything, breezing through the game, but in this place I get my teeth kicked in. Is this... right? I'm around level 53 but those pink Gryphon feet enemies hits my party for around 300 and up to 800+ on a crit, one shotting them, even with the best gear I can buy.

I've played SoM on the SNES for years, and I know Pure Land is tough, but this is ridiculous.
Any tips? ):

I went at it hardcore mode... lol. I was using only the gold town armor. But with creative use of defensive and offense magic I achieved victory... bought Neko's armor with the gold I got from pure lands afterwards.

Speaking of which, there's a Griffin Helm that drops off the Griffin Hands that is missable. So you do need to farm there a bit until you get that helm as it's best in slot item for Randi.

Thankfully I remembered and got my helm.

It's worse for the people who want to get all achievements, as there are 3,5 monsters in Pure Land that only spawn there and have missable equipment as a rare drop.

The helmet is as far as I know not missable, since you can go back to the pure land I think even after the tree is gone. Haven't tried it yet though.

You can but it takes you right to the tree. You cannot access anything else

Indeed, once the mana tree was reached, the Pure Land as a dungeon is lost, same as the sunken continent or any of the mana palaces.

My receipe for a good pureland-run:
- Illumi Barrier of Pureness
- Gnome Protector
- Gnome Speed
- Luna Moon-Energy and
- Dryad Magic-Shield

mostly it works with Speed, Moon-Energy and Barrier of Pureness.
You will see it's able to hit them badly :D

If you are done with the blue dragon and the tree is destroyed it isn't possible to go back while the acutal run and farm the helmet, amor and ring from pureland.

The same goes for the Mana-Temple and the Stuff you can gain from the basillisk.

:P

Go back to Dryad's Palace. You'll see Neko there with some VERY expensive armor.

Buy this Armor and you should have no trouble in Pure Land unless you're only like Lv20 or something.

If that's the case, kill the Jellyfish outside of the Moon Palace for awhile. They give nearly 1,400xp each.
Buy the newest Armor at the Mana Temple @Raffi. U wont have a problem anymore then. Made it with exactly that armor, thru the whole pure lands and Mana Fortress.

Evening! Thanks for all the replies. :)

Ooooh, I forgot about that greedy feline! I'mma have to do some gold grinding for the gear he sells and beef up my spells a bit. Like I said; I knew Pure Land was hard but never THIS hard. :p

There is actually one single Basilisk in the Mana Fortress, so that can still be farmed, but it's recommended to do that during the sunken continent dungeon as there are more Basilisk enemies around.

Gryphon feet are vulnerable to Gnome. Earth Slide trashes them like crazy, also, yes, go to neko outside the Mana palice. Get the gear, suddenly don't die.

There is a Neko right, next to the entrance of the Mana Palace that sells really high level gear. This will help greatly against the enemys in Pure Land. It's also very expensive.

400K isn't much if you have been fighting everything. If you also got a Cockatrice Cap, Amulet Helm, Guardian Ring and Ninja Gloves, all you need are 3 Vestguards, a Needle Helm and a Vambrace. The Vambrace you can also get for free from Steelpions.

Tl;dr version:

Buy Neko's ♥♥♥♥ after the Grand Mana Palace. It's expensive but it leads to a less ass kicking. If you got unllucky getting drops during it, that is.

Unless they increased the drop rates in the remake, I have never, ever seen a piece of armor drop in the Grand Palace. Ever.

So assuming the drop rates are the same as the original game's... eh, it's more like "if you win the lottery, you might get a piece of gear."
